New Virginia Governor to Deliver GOP Response to State of the Union

Newly inaugurated Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell will deliver the Republican response to President Obama's State of the Union address on Wednesday.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Minority Leader John Boehner announced the selection Thursday, with Boehner saying McDonnell was the choice because of his solutions-oriented approach to putting Virginians back to work.

zero Virginians back to work. He has created zero jobs in his whole life. He's an empty suit poised to follow the rw religious zealots while sounding like a moderate. I hope this backfires.

McDonnell has shown strength with implicit social conservatism, which he didn't flog in his campaign and alienate moderates thereby, and a reasonable-sounding fiscal conservatism. He's one to keep an eye on, especially as he has that all-important outsider cred.
