Somali Pirates Seize Libyan Vessel (flying North Korean flag)
Source: NYT

Published: February 4, 2010
A Libyan-owned merchant ship flying the North Korean flag has been hijacked by Somali prates in the Gulf of Aden, according to the European Union naval coalition in the gulf.

There was no immediate information about the cargo of the ship, a 4,800-ton merchant vessel called the Rim.

A United States destroyer, the Porter, and a helicopter from another American destroyer, the Farragut, were in the region and confirmed the hijacking to European Union officials. The American ships are part of Combined Task Force 151, a U.S. anti-piracy operation in the gulf.

European naval officers said the pirates seized the Rim off the southern coast of Yemen on Tuesday and were taking it to the Somali Basin on Thursday.

The ship was not registered with the E.U. force, known as Operation Atalanta, which escorts ships from the World Food Program delivering humanitarian aid. The E.U. flotilla also conducts anti-piracy patrols in the gulf and the waters off Somalia.

Hmm, that should be interesting.. Becouse both Libya and North Korea are not a country who care to mutch about what happend to the pirates and have some interesting special forces capable of doing a lot of things.. And I guess even the NATO lead Naval force in that area would no be to shy about geting a contigent of North Korean special forces to crack down on the pirates.. And i, hm wel belive it would be no pirates alive after they have been onboard...

Same with Libya who have been hooping to be a part of the international community for along time now.. With a good worked out work here, Libya would be, on not on the center stage so at least at a stage....

Becouse I really do not belive that Libya or North Korea want to pay a randsom for the ship... And it would suprise me if they did..

6. I really think they don't care whose ships they are or whose flag theyr'e flying.
They're not exactly carrying letters of mark or anything.

7. Is this like stealing from the mob?
I also wonder what the pirates may find in that ship.
