The Detroit NewsWashington --The Senate Commerce Committee set a hearing on Toyota's recall woes for March 2, while the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee canceled a hearing set for Wednesday because of another snowstorm headed for the capital.
"I look forward to a full evaluation of this serious situation. Consumer protection is the cornerstone of the commerce Committee's work, and I believe we must do all we can to get clear answers -- the committee has requested all recall related documents and is receiving briefings from NHTSA," said Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., chairman of the committee.
The House Oversight committee is planning to hold the hearing Feb. 24 -- one day before the House Energy and Commerce Committee holds its own hearing on Toyota.
The Washington area is snowbound after getting 18 to 38 inches last weekend, prompting the federal government to shut down Monday and today. Washington is set to get another 12 inches of snow or more over the next day.
