2 Presidents' Aides Will Start Testifying Next Week on 9/11

WASHINGTON, March 16 — Senior officials of the Bush and Clinton administrations will testify next week before the independent commission investigating the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks and they will be asked to explain their decisions on terrorist threats and "how they handled the most pressing security threat to our country," the panel said Tuesday.

The witness list for next Tuesday and Wednesday includes George J. Tenet, director of central intelligence in both administrations; Secretary of State Colin L. Powell and his predecessor, Madeleine K. Albright; Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld and his predecessor, William S. Cohen; and President Bill Clinton's national security adviser, Samuel R. Berger.

The list is notable for the absence of Condoleezza Rice, President Bush's national security adviser, who has refused an invitation from the commission to testify in public. The White House has said Ms. Rice, on advice from White House lawyers, has told the panel that it would be improper under the separation of powers for an incumbent national security adviser to testify at a public hearing. She gave a private interview several weeks ago.

At least the subject of terrorism was on Clinton's radar; Bush was too busy playing video golf, taking naps and talking to cows to pay attention to memos about impending terra.

and lie her ass off on a weekly basis, but it's not okay to testify publicly to the 9-11 commission about the worst terrorist attack in American history that occured on her watch?

3. That's a pretty stark hypocrisy, isn't it?

I have no problem with any of them wanting to testify privately (given potential national security conflicts), but they ALL need to testify FULLY and UNDER OATH. I'd be deeply angry at President Gore or the Big Dog if they refused to do so (which, of course, they haven't - they have nothing to hide).

There's a trick hidden in here somewhere. Whatever Prez Clinton and his administration say will be turned and twisted in the media for repig political advantage. I can see the pundits licking their chops. Those who brought the terrorists to power, years back like drunkard sailor rumsfeld, should be made to testify. The commity needs to the root of the problem, and it did not start with the Clinton administration. Something really sticks.
