French Official: Iraq War Made World Dangerous
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040319/ap_on_re_eu/france_iraq&cid=518&ncid=1480

PARIS - The world is a more dangerous place because of the U.S.-led war in Iraq (news - web sites), which may have toppled Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) but also unleashed postwar violence and an upswing in terrorism, the French foreign minister said.

"This is a belief that I have never stopped expressing," Foreign Minister Dominique de Villepin told Le Monde newspaper in an interview in its Friday edition.

"We have to look reality in the face: we have entered into a more dangerous and unstable world, which requires the mobilization of the entire international community," de Villepin said.

Assertions by the administration of President Bush (news - web sites) that ousting Saddam would make the world a safer place proved not to be true, de Villepin said.

3. Well, I guess that makes de Villepin
more honest and astute than most Democratic members of the House. It's nice to hear the truth now and then, even if it has to come from one of the "chocolate producing nations".

...damn, I guess the terrorists don't read the American papers.
The World Is A Safer Place because the republicans decree it so, goddammmmit!!!!

In an interview last night, Condi stated that:We are now uncovering evidence that previously independent groups now seem to be coordinating their attacks with each other(not a direct quote)

There he goes again: bush*, the great uniter (of terrorist groups)!

French Official: Iraq War Decreased Safety
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

PARIS (AP) -- The world is a more dangerous place because of the U.S.-led war in Iraq, which may have toppled Saddam Hussein but also unleashed postwar violence and an upswing in terrorism, the French foreign minister said.

Assertions by the administration of President Bush that ousting Saddam would make the world a safer place proved not to be true, de Villepin said.

"Terrorism didn't exist in Iraq before," de Villepin said. "Today, it is one of the world's principal sources of world terrorism."

11. Was he a part of the French involvement in Haiti?
If so, then his words mean nothing to me...empty and political garbage. I have admired him and I hope that he wasn't a part of the US/French coup in Haiti.

15. I just met a CNN Int'l camera guy who agreed that what Americans see
in their media is pathetic compared to what is shown to international audiences.

He's spent years covering stories around the world and is consistently shocked by what he sees on the air when he returns to the US.

I got to work on the sound system for Hans Blix and Christianne Amanpour at UC Berkeley a couple of days ago. CNN covered it and the camera guy and I commiserated over how sheltered Americans are from reality.

Oh yeah-I got to be twenty feet away from and help mike up freaking Hans Blix and Christianne Amanpour! How cool is that?

Blix used his great line about being bugged by the CIA-"If only they had actually listened to what I was saying..."

Here is a stunning article titled:

The failure of US journalism
By Robert Jensen

<snip>Almost a year after the US invasion of Iraq, the failure of US journalism is complete.

Before, during and after the war, mainstream commercial journalists have failed to provide the critical analysis, independent reporting, and the diverse range of opinions necessary for the American public to evaluate the Bush administration’s claims about the war.

20. Cool!
Unfortuneately it wouldn't have mattered if they had actually listened to him this decision was made long ago.

Just yesterday I watched two extremes. BBC lead with the developing situation in Kosovo and then the bombing in Iraq. Fox (I know I know) lead with Cheney's speech and their attempt to take apart Kerry's, they didn't even get to the Iraq bombing until about 10 minutes in.

Also the BBC (for American audiences) reported what was posted here, when the US troops showed up at the bomb site the crowd pushed them out of the way and were screaming and yelling at them. ABC's Peter Jennings( who I ususally like) actually stated that the crowd appreciated the US troops quick reaction and "there was no anger expresed" well he is in Iraq and he hopes to leave there. I dunno.

It is staggering the differences.

21. We knew that Dubya was wrong about that.
The warnings were there about: Iraq as centrifugal, with resulting destabilization of the entire region; creation of antagonism toward anyone who would invade; creation of terrorist cannon fodder among those outraged by any invasion, and so on. Just as with a Saddam-Al Qaida link, massive volumes of use-ready WMDs, and so on, Dubya's claims and assumptions were always suspect, to say the least.
