Hungarian centre-right wins two-thirds supermajority
Source: DPA

The centre-right party Fidesz secured an unprecedented two-thirds majority in Hungary's Parliament through second-round voting on Sunday, according to preliminary data from the National Election Office.
...
With almost 98 per cent of second-round votes counted, Fidesz was set to fill 263 of 386 seats in the Hungarian Parliament.

Holding more than two-thirds of seats in Parliament will give the centre-right party the power to implement deep structural changes that normally require a cross-party consensus, such as altering the parliamentary and electoral system.
...
Increasing the magnitude of Hungary's massive swing to the right, the nationalist party Jobbik was on its way into Parliament for the first time with a 47-member caucus, making it the country's third- largest political force.

Bad news, especially the rise of Jobbik - genuine fascists, complete with scapegoating of minorities and a banned paramilitary group (whose uniform the Jobbik leader says he will wear to the opening of parliament).

1. Bad news, indeed. The only silver lining is that Fidesz doesn't need Jobbik's support to form
the government. I suppose it would have been worse if Fidesz had to agree to a coalition with Jobbik in order to form a government.

2. My Hungarian friend told me that when
Jobbik approached Fidesz about a coalition, Fidesz told them that their help was not needed and moreover not welcome and that Jobbik should have fun with the opposition.

4. Not to mention that
my Hungarian friend happens to be married to an American woman who has visited her husband's native lands numerous times and has discussed politics with him and many old Hungarian men in the baths. Apparently the Center Right isn't terrible when it comes to issues of social responsibility (believing that both education and health care should be fully funded by the state and fighting cuts to both), and moreover that they don't have anything to say most social issues that Americans are up in arms about.

Given all of that my Green socialist, feminist, bisexual, pro-choice, militant liberal friend considers herself to be Center Right in Hungary.

Just throwing that out there.

5. Also the Center Right has enough MP's to push
through constitutional amendments (2/3rds majority) if they wanted to so doesn't really need anyone else to join their coalition. They can afford to do their own thing without input from the other parties in parliament.
