Fla. AG McCollum not invited to oil spill meeting
Source: AP

TALLAHASSEE — Attorney General Bill McCollum wasn't on the invitation list for U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder's meeting Tuesday with Gulf state attorneys generals and U.S. attorneys after his tour of areas affected by the massive Gulf oil spill.

McCollum's office didn't even know about the meeting in New Orleans until a reporter e-mailed a Justice Department press release to his spokeswoman, Sandi Copes, Monday evening. McCollum's staff spent Monday morning trying to reach the Justice Department for an explanation.

The Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama attorneys general and U.S. attorneys from those areas were meeting with Holder after his visit to the coast.

Holder said Tuesday that federal authorities have opened criminal and civil investigations into the nation's worst oil spill, though he would not specify the companies or individuals that might be targeted.

1. 40 days late?
Why the delay? Think of all the evidence lost in 40 days.

And they can't even name who they might charge and for what?

Why doesn't this make me feel all warm and fuzzy? Or confident at all?

3. Sometimes it takes 40 days to get the evidence.
I bet there is a whistle blower.

4. I'd bet there are a bunch of whistlers
But 40 days and no one yet charged? Can't even say who?

Doesn't sound like they are too sure about this.

Maybe they figured they best do something? Sure crashed the BP stock today.
Maybe they had to wit till some money got moved around? BP stock has lost over $60 B.

11. Well, careful steps have to be taken here.
I don't want to be explicit.

5. McGollum?
Were they afraid that he'd go after the One Ring or something?

7. As a republican, more than likely, he would try to help BP rather than the coastal communities.
by all accounts it was the right decision.

or person of interest. Not that I know anything in particular on the FL AG's dealings with BP or any of the other parties being looked at (TransOcean, Halliburton, MMS, ect...), but it's the only non-political reason that makes any sense.

Hey Octofish, got anything?

12. He is running for governor of FL. That is the reason he wasn't invited
And it is stupid politics which will backfire. It always does.

13. I'm not sure.
I heard that the office was meeting with quite a few environmental lawyers a few weeks back. Got the impression they wanted some of the legal action.
