'Joe Barton was right,' Joe Barton tweets
Source: WP

Hours after getting a respite from House Republicans, Rep. Joe Barton (R-Tex.) has cheekily responded to criticism over his "apology to BP" by tweeting a link to an American Spectator article titled "Joe Barton was right."

The article by Peter Hannaford is a robust defense of what Barton said, knocking the Obama administration for "Alinsky" tactics and hatred of business.

Rep. Joe Barton of Texas broke an iron law of Washington last week. He described the elephant in the room that no one was supposed to see. In this case, it was the strong-arming Obama & Co. applied to BP to get it to "voluntarily" set up a $20 billion fund to compensate Gulf citizens adversely affected by the oil spill. Barton used the inelegant term, "shakedown." He was promptly made to eat humble pie by his party's Congressional leaders, fearful that if they didn't clamp down, the Democrats would use it to tie the entire party to an unpopular company.

UPDATE: Barton has removed the tweet.

6. If Joe Barton had admitted to being an idiot and paid hack, I'd have to agree. These
"free market" nuts, if there wasn't so much $$$$$ behind them, would have long ago ended up in the trash heap of bad ideas.

12. Hannaford couldn't have it more wrong, Barton's "elephant in the room" exposure was that of
Republican Corporate Supremacy ideology come to fruition in all of it's sociopathic glory.

Corporate supremacists would hold that mega-corporations can destroy the environment, the people, the economy, an entire region and a rich culture and "We the People's" Government can't hold those offending corporations accountable.

Barton's inept, candor exposed this immoral, illogical and Constitution trashing belief system to the cold, harsh light of day, that's why the other Republicans ran for their usual shadows of pretending to represent the average American against big bad government.

Barton, Hannaford and their ilk would gladly neuter the people's representatives and place corporations supreme over that of "We the People's" Government as a means to indenture a then powerless American People. Mega Corporations would rule as the De Facto government, with all laws favoring the most wealthy and powerful.

Thanks for the thread, sabra.

13. So the only reason Joe apologized for his initial apology is because GOP leadership
threatened to remove him as ranking member? Gee, that kind of sounds like a....shakedown.
