Chinese police beat official's wife by mistake
Source: Guardian (UK)

Chinese commentators have called for better treatment of petitioners after police beat the wife of a high-ranking law enforcement official, reportedly mistaking her for a complainant.

According to Chinese media, the party chief of the local police bureau told her afterwards: "This incident is a total misunderstanding. Our police officers never realised that they beat the wife of a senior leader."

The comment sparked outrage, with one person reportedly responding: "Does it mean the police are not supposed to beat leaders' wives, but that the ordinary people can be battered?"

Perhaps I will make this a theme for the day ( http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x4474281 )?

Again, I invite comments by Police State apologists ...

3. The sad thing is he said this with a straight face.
"This incident is a total misunderstanding. Our police officers never realised that they beat the wife of a senior leader."

The implied meaning is that is is 100% perfectly acceptable to beat the 'right people' the Police only mistake was beating the wrong person.

4. It looks like China's "You have nothing to worry about if you've done nothing wrong" crowd just
received a big wake up call.

Especially that segment of the elites.

10. What? Couldn't they have just given her a "courtesy notice" like they do in Oakland?
...and save the neck-stomping for the "small people?"

11. Here's my solution
This will help with unemployment as well.

Send the brute squad in to randomly beat CEOs, elected officials, law enforcement officers, anyone on the Forbes 400 list, and sitting judges. Have a big "Wheel of Misfortune" at brute squad headquarters complete with pictures of all these important members of the community. For each incident of the little guy being wronged, like the 84-year old woman tased in her bed, for each homeless person who dies in the street, for each suicide of a veteran, the brute squad gets a spin of the wheel. Then they go out and thrash the lucky winner within an inch of his life.

Then the people can say to their leaders, "the beatings will continue until our situation improves".

20. Alive is a relative term...
If they make you disappear to a reeducation camp in the middle of no where for the next 20 years, is that still being alive?

15. Don't you just hate when that happens.
I mean, police beating those who are supposed to be above the law rather than those who are supposed to be oppressed by it.

;-)
