GOP ready to fight over global warming
Source: CNN.COM

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- It's no secret that many Republicans are deeply skeptical of global warming.

"The earth will end only when God decides it's time to be over," Rep. John Shimkus, R-Ill., said while quoting the Bible in a House hearing last year. "This earth will not be destroyed by a flood."

Shimkus is now one of four contenders to head the House Committee on Energy and Commerce when the Republicans take the reins in January.

Also vying for the leadership post: Rep. Joe Barton of Texas, who apologized to BP for what he called a White House "shakedown" when it agreed to establishing the $20 billion Gulf oil spill trust fund; Rep. Cliff Stearns of Florida, who wants to open up Alaska's wildlife refuge to drilling; and Michigan's Fred Upton.

1. The next time the "nader" argument comes up about the parties being the same...

12. ... we can point them downthread to .11 which sums it up nicely ...
(i.e., that regardless of the vocal idiocy that appears to differentiate
the two parties, the actual margin of difference is within Nader's approximation.)

3. how about the shakedown when we have to pay to rebuild houses washed out to sea or pay for
berms to protect structures that shouldn't have been built in flood or storm surge zones?

As long as these are repuke homes and structures, we have to pay for whatever their insurance doesn't :puke:

BTW, in the height of stupidity, I read an article in WaPo about a plan to build a berm to protect the Wash. Monument from the Potomac R. in a 100-yr. flood. Do you know how far the Potomac is from the Monument? Fairly far, and the Monument is built on a good size hill. Extremely doubtful it would ever flood.

A friend told me it's just an excuse because wealthy people and businessmen in the area can't get flood insurance.

4. They're probably burned up that Dems had a few hearings recently on Global Warming ....
and the news sure ain't good!!

All of this will be shut down when the Repugs take over --

It's an absolute necessity that they "win" considering all of the stuff they have

to keep swept under the rug!!

All hell would be breaking loose re information and coverup if they didn't find some

way to hold onto power!!

6. And there you have it
So instead of doing something about global warming, we are now going to waste months on a debate about whether or not it even exists at all.

7. When is this war against intelligence, science, facts and common sense going to end?
The Republican war against anything and everything logical and intellectual is the number one reason this country is suffering. It is at the root of every single problem that divides this country. They are on the wrong side of this war and they know but they keep perpetuating it and America continues to suffer as a result.

8. Don't worry about this.
Even the Republicans are going to feel global warming sooner rather than later. I think it is safe to predict an increasing number of strange weather events that can only be explained by the experts on global warming.

The polar ice is melting ever more rapidly, and that is not going to be good for Florida or many other parts of the US.

Great - now we'll be arguing about polar bears while Wall St Banks get a "Get out of Jail FREE" card and a free pass at foreclosing on as many homes as they wish

11. Don't know what there is to fight about
It's not like the Democrats with their former majority were known as hell on wheels for enacting climate change legislation. Cap and trade was a fig leaf and the Copenhagen Summit was blown. Even the car fuel efficiency standards which are to be raised to lower milelage levels than my 2004 Prius now gets will not come into force until the ice caps are on their way to melting beyond redemption.
