HAWAII: Senate Approves Civil Unions!

The Hawaii Senate has just approved its civil unions bill!

The Senate voted 19-6 for the bill Friday, sending it to the state House of Representatives for additional consideration. Hawaii would become the sixth state to grant some of the rights of marriage to same-sex couples without authorizing marriage itself. A civil unions bill also passed the Illinois Legislature last month. Democrats, who control the Hawaii Legislature, have said they plan to approve the bill quickly this year and send it to new Democratic Gov. Neil Abercrombie for his signature. Abercrombie has said he supports civil unions.

2. only reason it didn't happen sooner is because of a veto from the former Republican and allegedly...
...lesbian governor. Linda Lingle's sexual orientation is an open secret in Hawaii. Gov. Lingle said this decision should be made by the voters. Nevermind that the congress are the people's representatives and that civil rights should never be put up for a vote by the people.

3. Lingle was laughable in her logic.
A civil rights issue should never be put in front of the people for a vote.
The main problem with Lingle is she may run for a Senate seat if Akaka or Inouye dies or retires. She is a definite hypocrite and a lying cheat as are most Repugthug politicians.

How can a party with so much Chaos going on, as in the tea party agitators, be given so much credence. Oh and CNN giving the teabaggers credence last Tuesday, unforgivable. no longer give that network credence. Push left people, don't fade to the right. Get It?

5. Let's hear it for another step to equal marriage
I know that civil unions/domestic partnerships are not satisfactory to some, but they give time to show the straight and narrow that the sky won't fall if same-gender couples are respected by the law, at least in some small measure.

6. I hope it is still worded broadly and inclusively
"Any two adults who cannot legally marry" includes a vast array of families.
