Powell sees signs of Sunni-Shi'ite tactical contact
Are all these guys on Oxycontin or something?

WASHINGTON, April 9 (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell on Friday cited signs of tactical contact between Sunnis and Shi'ites fighting U.S. forces in Iraq but no grand alliance as he tried to put the best face on a "tough week."

Speaking in hastily arranged interviews with major U.S. television networks, Powell vowed U.S. forces would prevail in the fiercest fighting since U.S. troops toppled Saddam Hussein a year ago and began an occupation resented by many Iraqis.

Powell said only a minority was combating the U.S. forces and he said Washington was sticking to its plan to hand over sovereignty to a still-undefined Iraqi authority on June 30 although U.S. troops will remain after that.

"It's been a tough week, let's be clear about that. But I still believe that most Iraqis are with us," he told Fox News.

2. It's Ambien, remember -- they are all on Ambien

Powell described his killer schedule in an interview Thursday with Abdul Rahman Al-Rashed, a reporter for a London-based Saudi newspaper.

"So do you use sleeping tablets to organize yourself?" Al-Rashed asked.

"Yes. Well, I wouldn't call them that," Powell said. "They're a wonderful medication -- not medication. How would you call it? They're called Ambien, which is very good. You don't use Ambien? Everybody here uses Ambien."

But it appears that even through the haze of prescription pharmaceuticals, they are resolute in their intention to hand over 'sovereignity' to a still-undefined Iraqi authority June 30, (although US troops will remain after that, limitations and exceptions apply in certain jurisdictions).

Given that they haven't quite found their Iraqi dictator-of-choice yet, I almost feel inspired to write a piece called 'Waiting for Diem'...

3. Powell must feel nostalgic
This is just like his Viet Nam days, covering up atrocities and denying reality.

4. Wait! I thought they were on the verge of a civil war???
Or is the US considering opposition to an occpation force by the citizens of a country a civil war? Have people become so stupid they can't tell the difference? I hear our brilliant news readers repeating the civil war thing over and over.

5. How can he see anything with his head so far up Bush's ass?
A soldier without honor is simply a murderous outlaw.

It will be a pleasure to see him fall...

7. The only sign Powell should be
looking for is a "Help Wanted" sign. If he stays through the next election does he get some "extra" pay for sticking with bush rather than sticking it to him? He is a big sell out to the country.

8. but but but but - they are worshipping together
they are worshipping together in the same mosques - side by side.

And a GOOD christian like powell should know: the family that prays together, stays together. (sarcasm)

they are nuts. But at least sleeping america can go to their Easter services with a clean conscience knowing that there really isn't anything to worry about. (more sarcasm, with a dollop of cynicism)
