Gingrich owed over $250,000 to jewelry company
– 39 mins ago

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich owed between $250,001 and $500,000 to a top jewelry company in 2005 and 2006, Politico’s Jake Sherman reports.

The report, citing financial disclosures filed with the Clerk of the House of Representatives, noted that his wife Callista Gingrich was employed with the House Agriculture Committee until 2007. The documents indicated that she owed as much as half a million dollars to Tiffany’s.

The documents noted that the debt was her spouse’s. Gingrich spokesman Rick Tyler refused to comment to Politico on the story.

The story noted that Gingrich may have since paid off the debt, and that he will be forced to file a report of his personal finances as part of his run for president.

2. Might be closer to 500k
Now he is being stung by a report that he carried up to $500,000 in debt to the Tiffany jewelry company - and may still be carrying it.

12. I seem to remember reading that the current Mrs. Gingrich
has quite an affinity for pearls.

She'd have to work to run up a bill that large at Tiffany, IMHO.

It would be delicious if it was discovered Newt was actually running up that kind of debt for someone else, wouldn't it?

:woohoo:

I would say something about wondering whether the robin's-egg-blue box makes its appearance before or after, but that would be unsportsmanlike.

14. no way was that all for his wife....
pearls or other. I just spent a few seconds looking for the Tiffany's site, and the highest bling pearl necklace is $63,000 and, granted, that is a hell of a lot of money, the prices then drop to about 5,000 per. I just can't believe that Newt spent that much on his wife, but, I could be completely wrong. I often am.

But anyway, check out the site, like any of us slobs will ever shop there. Kind of a fun fantasy, in that Holly Golightly (the movie, not the story) New York kind of way.

19. If you like sterling silver jewelry
it's possible to get something nice for under $200. I participate in a raffle each year; the org I belong to often buys a silver Tiffany necklace or bracelet as a "OMG, I could win something from TIFFANY!!!!!1111!!!" draw.

I agree with you on the price of pearls there. They're spendy, but they're not half-a-million spendy. I wonder how Callista Gingrich's day is going, don't you?

23. The man is a textbook sociopath
He has got to be one of the most amoral and corrupt people ever to serve in the US government, and the bar is really high on that one. He has no conscience - no sense of right or wrong, no moral compass at all.

25. That really is so true
He's just a whoppertunist of the worst sort; he's got the personality of a Televangelist of the Jim Baker sort, and he's so smugly unscrupulous, viciously insinuating and blazingly vain. Truly one for the ages, and a lesson to us all.
