Israeli media reveals U.S. president's forthcoming Mideast speech
Source: Xinhua

JERUSALEM, May 17 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Barack Obama will call on Israel to withdraw to the 1967 borders and agree to additional concessions that will enable a resumption of the peace process, Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth revealed on Tuesday.

The newspaper claimed to have obtained a draft of Obama's planned speech at the State Department on Thursday in which he will outline his administration's Middle East policy, in light of the anti-government protests that have swept the region over the past year.

White House press secretary Jay Carney said Sunday that Obama would raise the need for progress in the peace process. However, he did not reveal whether the president planned to present a diplomatic initiative to revive the process, after negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians broke down last September.

According to Yedioth Ahronoth, Obama will call on Israel to withdraw to the 1967 cease-fire lines with territorial adjustments that will be agreed on in the negotiations with the Palestinian National Authority. The president will label the West Bank settlements as "illegal" and emphasize that Israel must halt their construction.

3. In my wildest dream....
but, you know, Obama has proven to be a damn good politician, so, if anybody could pull this off it's he. Especially on the heels of the bin Laden caper. We'll see.

6. Sounds like Israeli intelligence still has it's sources in the US government
This leak sounds like it was engineered by the Likudnik types to gear up AIPAC opposition to the proposal.

Obama should secure his organization.

8. If true, what else are these highly-placed traitors stealing and delivering to Israel or others?
Everything printed in Israel newspapers has to be approved for publication by military censors. Everything. Which means this information was almost certainly gleaned by the Israeli military/government, but definitely approved for publication by the Israeli military.

Why tip the hand? Why not just keep such information under wraps, if true? Simply put, in the time between now and when the speech will be delivered the Israeli government, through it's proxies in the United States, will put every kind of pressure on the president, either directly or through congressmen and women. That's how it works.

10. Suuuuure....
There is no reason in the world to believe that this is Obama's position, or that of any major player in his administration.

Instead, this planted story will be used to beat him up as an enemy of Israel, and force further concessions for him to survive.

13. If the American congress
really want peace and security for the citizens of this country, they need to back the president and tell Israel they must move back to the 1967 line or the aide will not be forth coming. But our law makers are so damn afraid of Israels ability to wreck their political careers they will continue backing a ruthless government. The Israeli citizens deserve more than what their government does for them, constant war.We American citizens deserve the truth from our elected officials, the middle east conflict has taken untold lives of both the Israelis and the Arabs. If the old peace efforts did not work why not something new?Mr President if you can pull this off you will deserve the peace prize you received but did not deserve.Good luck and God speed.
