Wife of congressman in sex scandal pregnant: report
NEW YORK | Wed Jun 8, 2011 5:55pm EDT

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The wife of Representative Anthony Weiner, ensnared in a sex scandal for sending lewd pictures of himself over the Internet, is pregnant, the New York Times reported on Wednesday.

Huma Abedin, an aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton who married the congressman a year ago, is expecting the couple's first child, the Times reported, citing three unnamed people with knowledge of the situation.

Weiner, a rising star in the Democratic Party who many had seen as the next mayor of New York, is resisting calls that he resign.

1. This is terrible for her. When she should be the happiest, pregnant with her first child in your
first year of marriage. I feel so sorry for her.

3. We have no idea how Mrs. Weiner feels about any of this
Does any one who posts about this know either of the Weiners well enough to add some insight here? I doubt it. I certainly have not read or heard her side of this issue, which of course is none of my business.

not follow the steps of other important women in similar situations. I would not be at all surprised if she cops a plea for him.

13. You can forgive, but deep down you don't trust them the way you did before infidelity.
You may well still love the person, but you're not in love anymore. You may stay in the relationship/marriage because of social, family, religious or financial reasons, but your opinion of your partner and of the quality of your relationship is lessened. And in situations that become public, where your family, friends, neighbors and/or business associates know what happened, there is the added sting of public humiliation.

When you absolutely believe someone is crazy about you and you can't imagine they would cheat on you, and then they do, you question your own intuition and judgment. You can keep having sex with them, but for many spouses, the knowledge of the cheating is just below the surface and especially lurking in the bedroom, negatively impacting the quality and quantity of sex.

After decades of observing human foibiles re infidelity, I conclude that frequently someone who cheated on their partner once, and the partner stayed with them, concludes - "hey, I cheated and got by with it. It wasn't that big of a deal because they didn't leave me, file for divorce, etc. I'll try to be more discreet and not get caught."

Yeah, what Weiner did was stupid. Yeah, he's a jerk. But we're not married to him, so it's not business.

37. I agree. His sexual "exploits" are none of my biz, but being lied to by him IS our biz.
Just like when Bill Clinton lied. The Lewinsky affair meant nothing to me. Having the President lie to me on national television tagged him as an a-hole in my mind.

Wiener has to go for the good of Our Nation, and the good of the Democratic party. He's now a liability.

Voyeuristic at the very least, and quite possibly counted as a sin, so we can all now judge YOU from across the internets!

'morbid' is accurate only if there are dead puppies or something. It's just plain sad is what it is.

15. Report: Rep. Weiner's wife is pregnant
Source: USA Today

Updated at 6:07 p.m. ET

Huma Abedin, the wife of embattled Rep. Anthony Weiner, is pregnant with the couple's first child, according to The
New York Times.

The newspaper, citing "three people with knowledge of the situation," said the couple has disclosed the pregnancy to
close friends and family.

The revelation tops a wild day in which key Democrats have called on Weiner to resign. After days of denials, the New York
congressman admitted Monday that he sent a lewd, crotch-level photo of himself to a Seattle woman. He also said he had
"inappropriate" relationships with women on Facebook and Twitter.

Weiner has said he will not resign. During his sometimes-tearful news conference, Weiner also said he and his wife -- an
aide to Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton -- have no plans to split up. They got married in July 2010.

21. No he wouldn't - I think the last thing his wife wants is for him to show up while she
is working in a troubled part of the world. I assume that she, like most people as high level as she is, has the ability to compartmentalize her two worlds. It might actually be good that she is extremely busy and not anywhere the media can reach her.

As to resigning, I assume that he will want her input, but I think he may be getting a lot of pressure from party officials. Ultimately, it will be his decision. However, there is significant pressure in the party, you can bet his career is pretty limited - given that they can control redistricting.

31. Not exactly,
The fact is that other Democrats have helped Weiner in the past. There are also party elders and people in current leadership positions. If this story continues and is a diversion that hurts them in their job or in 2012, they have every right to tell him what they think. He has every right to ignore them. I would guess that this has seriously wounded any chances he has to become mayor, Senator or a member of leadership. As was noted, he was not well liked in teh caucus to begin with.

What you did concerning the pictures, is between you and your wife. No laws were broken. It none of my business that you have, in my opinion, a silly hobby.

I wish the media would have given this much attention over the WMD's and other lies told by the Bush/Cheney administration. If they had, maybe hundreds of thousands of innocent people would still be alive today.
