Texas Gov. Rick Perry made a joke at a Latino convention that an appointee’s name sounds like a bottle of tequila — and it didn’t go over very well.

The Associated Press reported that Perry, a Republican considering a run for president in 2012, made the comments Thursday in San Antonio at the 28th annual National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials conference. (Report: Perry likely to jump in this summer)

Perry reportedly joked that he liked how a man named Jose Cuevas had been appointed to the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission because his name sounds like Jose Cuervo, a brand of tequila. The joke fell flat.

“Perry struggled to regain his confidence as he described Texas as a land of opportunity,” the Associated Press reported.

Perry has spoken in favor of a second attempt to destroy the country through secession. Did he make any jokes about that? Texas children below the age of 4 are majority non-anglo. Did he make any jokes about how he is encouraging racism against the majority of young children in Texas?
