Ex-Egyptian bank chief: guilty of hotel sex abuse

div class="excerpt"](Bloomberg) – The former chairman of Egypt's Bank of Alexandria pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor in New York state court following charges that he sexually abused a maid at a Manhattan hotel.

Mahmoud Abdel Salam Omar, charged with sexually assaulting the employee of Manhattan's Pierre Hotel, pleaded guilty Friday to sexual abuse in the third degree. He was also sued in Manhattan federal court for $5 million over the assault.

The victim alleged Mr. Omar groped her in his room on May 29 after asking her to bring him tissues. Police originally charged Mr. Omar with sexual abuse in the first degree, sexual abuse in the third degree and forcible touching. He faced as long as seven years in prison if convicted of the most serious charge.
