Cain: Impeaching Obama would be ‘a great thing to do’
Source: Yahoo News

Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain said Tuesday it would be "great" if President Obama were impeached, citing several actions the president has taken that Cain said merit the president's ouster.

"It would be a great thing to do but because the Senate is controlled by Democrats we would never be able to get the Senate first to take up that action, because they simply don't care what the American public thinks," Cain said, according to Politico. "They would protect him and they wouldn't even bring it up."

Cain made the comments during a conference call with bloggers Tuesday night in response to a question about whether he thought the president should face trial in Congress. The former businessman and radio host said there is a "a whole list" of impeachable offenses, starting with Obama's decision to instruct the Justice Department to stop enforcing the Defense of Marriage Act and the passage of the health care law.

"So the main stumbling block in terms of getting him impeached on a whole list of things such as trying to pass a health care mandate which is unconstitutional, ordering the Department of Justice to not enforce the Defense of Marriage Act—that's an impeachable offense right there," Cain said. "The president is supposed to uphold the laws of this nation … and to tell the Department of Justice not to uphold the Defense of Marriage Act is a breach of his oath."

Not that he ever had a chance to win over the highly racist teabagger base, but he is absolutely done now.

6. Is there anybody in the Tea Party
who has ever even read the Constitution?

"It would be a great thing to do but because the Senate is controlled by Democrats we would never be able to get the Senate first to take up that action, because they simply don't care what the American public thinks," Cain said, according to Politico. "They would protect him and they wouldn't even bring it up."

Only the House acts to impeach. The Senate has no say in the matter. Impeachment is merely the bringing of charges. The trial is then held in the Senate, with the House having no vote on whether to convict.

An impeachable offense, I think. We need to stop the Imperial Presidency thing where the country can get dragged into war by the President alone.

Isn't it amazing that these folks seem to think they can just throw the term "impeach" around like it were..... um a filibuster?

Notice they didn't use it when W was lying to the country and Congress in his State of the Union.

17. Another RW crazy who doesn't understand the Constitution!
A president can only be impeached if they have committed crimes, like say torture, war crimes, violating the constitution or financial fraud like Bush did.

It is not a tool to be used when you don't like the president. There is no recall clause.

These right wing crazies who profess to love the constitution understand neither the letter nor the spirit of it.

This is another statement that screams "I Herman Cain am totally unfit for the office of the President"

18. I predict that if we re elect Obama
And don't change the house makeup that they will try to impeach him.
And don't think they need reasons, believe me they can make them up.....but they will do this to tie him up for his last term and to force him to follow their way.

30. Don't blame you a bit.
The others scare the shit out of me....especialy Perry....who probably will win the nomination.
With Obama we have a chance....with the others not at all.
But if the GOP is still in charge of the house they will try to impeach him.

25. Even during the Lewinsky scandal and impeachment Bill Clinton had high approval ratings
Clinton's best approval rating was in December 1998 - the Gallup poll on December 19, 1998, when the House impeached the president, returned a 73% rating. It sank to 53% by May 1999 but never fell below that.

34. What a fucking loser ...
The Senate doesn't "take up that action" in the first place. It's with the House's purview to hold impeachment hearings.

Second of all, none of those things he listed are "impeachable." If anything, the bar has been set too high by Bush.

36. "...we would never be able to get the Senate first to take up that action..."
Someone needs to inform Mr. Cain that the House impeaches, not the Senate. If the House impeached, the Senate would have no choice about taking the case. So if he thinks there is a case for impeachment let him talk to Bonerman.
