Gadhafi's downfall revives bitter dispute over Lockerbie bomber
Source: CNN

(CNN) -- Politicians on both sides of the Atlantic are demanding that Libya's new rulers extradite convicted Lockerbie bomber Abdel Basset al-Megrahi.

U.S. Sens. Robert Menendez, D-New Jersey, Charles Schumer, D-New York, and Frank Lautenberg, D-New Jersey, have been among those demanding al-Megrahi be sent to the United States for trial. So has Mitt Romney, who is seeking the Republican nomination for president.

Several British members of Parliament have called for his return to Greenock prison in Scotland.

Al-Megrahi was released from the jail on compassionate grounds in 2009 after serving eight years of a 27-year sentence for his involvement in the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 in December 1988. All 259 passengers and crew aboard the plane, plus 11 people in the Scottish border town of Lockerbie, were killed.

The AP also reported "Scottish council, eying turmoil in Libya, wants to contact Lockerbie bomber": "LONDON — Scottish officials overseeing the parole of a Libyan man convicted of the Lockerbie bombing said Monday they want to contact him now that the fighting between Libyan forces and rebels has reached Tripoli."

3. What a wonderful idea.
Perhaps then we'll get to the bottom of the allegation that the FBI fabricated evidence in the case.

4. i never quite bought the official story either. i thought some kind of deal went down with
ghaddafi knowingly taking the rap to cover up the real story, in exchange for some kind of compensation.

6. Yes. I don't think those now wanting the case reopened know
what's waiting for them.

Here's another blog that critiques posts and stories from elsewhere about the issues: http://lockerbiecase.blogspot.com/

It's run by Professor Robert Black . "He is often referred to as the architect of the Lockerbie trial at Camp Zeist in the Netherlands." He was so disgusted with the conduct of the case that he's campaigned about it evr since.

Check out especially this recent post, "Stand by for dodgy evidence to emerge": http://lockerbiecase.blogspot.com/2011/08/stand-by-for-dodgy-evidence-to-emerge.html
