Revealed: Former Goldman Sachs VP Turned Issa Staffer Supervised Scheduling Of Elizabeth Warren Incident
By Lee Fang on Aug 23, 2011 at 7:00 pm

.................

According to e-mail correspondence obtained from Judicial Watch, Haller oversaw the scheduling of the Warren testimony. According to Flavio Cumpiano, a congressional liaison for the CFPB, Haller reportedly changed the time of the hearing at the last minute, then misled Warren staffers by promising to end the testimony by 2:15 pm that day. In the emails, Haller denies ever agreeing to 2:15. But, Haller had been informed that Warren could not go beyond 2:15:

– Monday May 23 8:43pm: Haller writes to Flavio Cumpiano, a congressional liaison for the CFPB, the night before the hearing to make “an late change to 1:00.” At 11:00pm, Cumpiano responds to figure out a better time.
– Tuesday May 24 morning: After Haller and Cumpiano go back and forth with e-mails about which time would be best, a phone conversation occurs between Haller and Adewale Adeyemo, chief of staff to the CFBP implementation team, and a schedule is set. At 10:11am, Cumpiano e-mails Haller: “Hi Peter. I understand from Wally -copied here- that you both spoke and she’ll testify from 1:15pm to 2:15pm. Thanks, Flavio.”
– Tuesday May 24 afternoon around 2:15pm: McHenry, with Haller sitting behind him, accuses Warren of trying to evading the committee by trying to leave at the agreed-upon time. When Warren noted that McHenry’s aides had agreed upon the schedule, McHenry elicited audible gasps in the room by declaring Warren a liar: “You’re making this up, Ms. Warren. This is not the case.”
– Tuesday May 24 2:32pm: As Warren leaves the hearing room, Haller fires off an e-mail to Cumpiano demanding that he “please confirm” that he did not “confirm the end time.” Later that afternoon, Cumpiano responds by reiterating that Haller had confirmed the 2:15pm end time, and had even told Adeyemo that he would inform McHenry of the schedule during the call.

that pernicious, weasel faced little turd McHenry called Elizabeth Warren a liar.

23. Even after hearing a member of Congress call our president a liar,
the Warren smear still shocked. Never researched McHenry; is he a 'bagger? (Is that a dumb question?)

37. I hope she runs for the United States Senate.
The liar McHenry should apologize.

BTW: That Goldman Sachs servant of the people belongs in jail, along with the rest of his cronies and co-conspirators.

Maybe express 'surprise' & seek a nonconfrontational way 'forward'.

4. I find tackhammers not all that confrontational...
perhaps we could start smacking GOP legislators with them. We could post bills at the same time.

"This man is an idiot" *clank*
"I voted to raise taxes on poor people so my friends could keep cheap jets" *clank*
"I'm Eric Cantor, I'm the chief idiot of this idiot-swarm. Pay no attention to that intoxicated carrot with the nice toupee over there." *clank*

12. How about a compromise which allows Republican staffers
to screw, punk and sabotage Democrats TEN times for every ONE time they don't. Sounds fair.

5. It appears that the ending time of 2:15 was "in a phone conversation that occurs"
between Haller and a Consumer Finance Protection Bureau staffer who was not the CFPB liasion guy Haller had been emailing with. That makes it a he said/he said situation, possibly just a misunderstanding, but unverifiable because it was a phone call and not email. I believe it's very possible that Haller did that deliberately, but the fact is he isn't on record as confirming the 2:15 ending date. The sleaziness of Patrick McHenry, however, is not in dispute. It's there for all to see.

15. Yeah ... He said/he said ... Except ...
This little confirming e-mail:

"At 10:11am, Cumpiano e-mails Haller: “Hi Peter. I understand from Wally -copied here- that you both spoke and she’ll testify from 1:15pm to 2:15pm. Thanks, Flavio.”

This was 3 hours before the hearing. If the situation was contrary to the e-mail, it would have been addressed.

16. Exactly. And calling her a liar during a hearing was extremely out of line.
I can't imagine a judge doing the same without it being undeniable. Opposing counsel, maybe; an adverse party or witness, sure; but a high ranking elected government official conducting a hearing... extremely unprofessional and disrespectful.

19. But you can email someone & say This is how I understand it... If they don't respond
in the affirmative, it's still up in the air. You don't have proof (that the other person understands it the same way you do). The other person deliberately wouldn't respond, if they didn't want you to have proof. All that we know about these people points to sleaze, but they've left themselves plausible deniability. It's what they do.

22. No it's not ...
In just about every business communication I have had, any unanswered confirming e-mail is understood that the stated arrangement stands, especially when preceded by several back and forth communications ... And especially, especially when it involves a high level meeting.

The only times when it does is when someone drops the ball and is looking for a way out ... but that does not change the understanding; it only provides an excuse.

24.  They did not leave themselves "plausible deniability."
People write confirmation letters of this nature all the time.

"I'm writing to confirm that we agreed xyz."

The recipient of such a letter will quite likely be bound by the terms of the letter if the recipient does not respond to object. Anyway, that is my experience.

17. That reminds me of a guy I heard on the radio last year. He
said he used to be in the 'mob' and that the bankers do things they'd never have done. He said if a guy was out of work, they'd wait for their payments and not charge more. If a guy's wife or child was sick, they'd wait. That they might beat someone up for not paying, but they'd never take anyone's home. And that their interest rates were lower. I agree, these guys are much worse.

The silver lining being that, by blocking her appointment to the Consumer Protection Agency, they got her to run for the Senate instead.
