Gloria Cain: My husband 'respects women'
Source: Politico

In an interview taped with "On the Record with Greta Van Susteren" - which will air Monday - Herman Cain's wife, Gloria, appears to have shored up her husband over allegations about sexual harassment.

We haven't seen the full transcript yet, but in this partial transcript provided by the show, Gloria Cain said, "...you hear the graphic allegations and we know that would have been something that's totally disrespectful of her as a woman. And I know the type of person he is. He totally respects women.”

BTW, Gloria Cain has voted in Democratic primaries.

6. I shocked, shocked, I say... that no-one has compared the records of Cain and Clinton....
on this subject.

I guess we're just not very introspective this month.... or some pigs are more equal than other pigs.

23. Actually Cain's is worse.
What Clinton did was arguably immoral, but not illegal (until he lied under oath). If the Republican woman was truthful when she said Cain shoved her head into his crotch and demanded a blow job for her to keep her job, then he committed a crime and his actions were coercive. Clinton's affairs were consensual, as far as we've heard.

Now there is a pattern here, however, of women coming forward to accuse both men and not being believed initially - and Hilary, too, stood by by her man when Gennifer Flowers first accused him. Cain sounds like the prototypical political wife who keeps those blinders on. Maria Schwarzenegger was another -- she didn't want to believe all those stories about Arnold groping women and behaving badly, until he knocked up the maid. One of those early groping victims, by the way, was also represented by Gloria Alred.

29. One of Clinton's accusers claimed she had approached him for a job after her
Edited on Mon Nov-14-11 05:25 AM by No Elephants
husband passed away and his response was sexual. (Kathleen Willey) She was a volunteer aide at the time.

She claimed to have rebuffed his advance and never got a job, although I don't know that she expressly alleged that she never got the job simply because she rebuffed him. It was however, a conclusion that could readily be drawn from her allegations. She was subpoenaed to testify in the Jones suit.

There were allegations about Willey that reflected poorly on her credibility, but, all we can do is try to compare allegations about Cain with allegations about Clinton. No jury decided anything about either of them or about their accusers.

Paula Jones was a state employee, and a married woman, supposedly hauled up to a hotel room by security guards to see her boss, who then supposedly asked her for a blow job. While she refused and did not lose her job, it was a coercive situation involving an employer who was also Governor. That is a lot of pressure. If her allegations are true, I am sure she lived in some fear after her refusal.

I don't remember if Genifer Flowers was a state employee when she and Clinton had a sexual encounter, but, yes, she did consent. However, that is a different issue from whether Clinton was using HIS position to get sex.

Also: "In December 1996, Gennifer Flowers talked about her sexual relationship with Bill Clinton on The Richard Bey Show. The show was canceled the following day. Richard Bey later attributed a direct connection between the two consecutive events (see TV appearances).http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gennifer_Flowers

And, there is the fact of engaging in sexual activity in the Oval Office in "the People's House" and while on the telephone with another head of state, IOW, while conducting the people's business. And with a 21 year old intern.

And the perjury is not nothin'. It was because of the perjury that he got impeached and our children's history books have to figure out a way to explain the reason for his historic impeachment--only the second impeachment in U.S. history-- delicately enough for seventh graders.

So, if all the allegations about Clinton were true, they come very close to the Cain story in some ways and perhaps exceed the Cain story in other ways.

37. Sorry! I was thinking of Cain sexually assaulting a woman and Clinton having a consensual
affair with Lewinsky. Maybe I'm getting my scandals mixed up these days--gawd knows
it's getting harder all the time to follow (or believe...sometimes I could swear I'm
reading The Onion...) :)

10. "Respects"? He doesn't even seem like it and, as they say...
Actions Speak Louder Than Words.

He does NOT act, as though he repects women.

Hell, he doesn't act like he respects America OR Americans, regardless of party, creed,
color, sex, religion, blah, blah, blah.

You show me a GOPBagger that has respect for America and ALL Americans...and then we can talk.

Which women? Certainly not all of them.

To paraphrase your husband, Mrs. Cain... for every woman he respects there are thousands he doesn't.

20. Like Jon Stewart said,
(paraphrasing somewhat)

How many wives would hear about their husband behaving this way and say "Oh that sounds just like the man I know."
(Unless she was on her way to the divorce lawyer)

30. In fairness to Mrs. Cain, he probably does not act like a lech in her presence.
However, his proclivity for double entendres relating to women speak for themselves.

Even if no allegations about him and physical activity had been made, I would find his comments disrepectful toward women and revelatory of a mind often in the gutter when women are mentioned.

Here is he on the Jimmy Kimmel show (not exact words)

Jimmy Kimmel: Would you hire Gloria Allred to be your lawyer?

Herman Cain: (Some remark about what his handlers would not like him to say, then...) Let me put it this way, Jimmy: I wouldn't hire her to do ANYthing. (smirk)
