(CNN) - President Barack Obama tops the Republican presidential frontrunners in hypothetical head-to-head matchups, according to a new survey.

The ABC/Washington Post Poll indicated Obama is ahead of Mitt Romney, 51% to 45%, among registered voters. The new figure is the first time Obama cracked 50% against the former Massachusetts governor in the survey. He received 46% to Romney's 47% in mid-January.

It's still way too early for polls to be meaningful. However, the Republicans have been roaming arouond the nation, putting a lot of miles on the clown car, and campaigning hard, against Obama, as well as against each other. Obama, on the other hand, has not yet begun to fight in earnest, apart from some of his proxies saying some things about Mitt and Newt. I have to believe his numbers will be even better once he starts fighting.

This is bunch of losers on the Republican side, if I ever saw one.

However, as I always say about elections, never despair and never be complacent.

1. reminds me of 1996 but worse
could almost be 1984 with Reagans massive win. don't think that'll happen again but... who knows... Mitt gets Utah and Nevada.

2. Dunno. Are there more Mormons in Nevada than union members?

Harry Reid wins there, but then again, he is a Mormon and I think the other Senator from Nevada is a Republican.

Democrats have been making big mistakes (IMO) about unions, too.
