Calif. Governor Pulls Troops from Golden Gate Bridge
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has ordered the California National Guard to pull its troops guarding the Golden Gate Bridge, a $5 million cost-cutting move that puts pressure on local authorities protecting the span, a bridge official said on Wednesday.
The decision upset Golden Gate Bridge officials who said the rotating contingent of 50 troops have played an important role in guarding the span considered a prime target following the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.

Mary Currie, a spokeswoman for the agency that owns and operates the famed bridge that draws tens of thousands of tourists each year, said the Republican governor's administration cited cost-cutting as a reason.

"We are definitely not happy with it," Currie said. "For 2 1/2 years they were an integral part of our security on the bridge."

California's homeland security officials could not be reached for comment on the decision but Schwarzenegger has repeatedly said the federal government should contribute more money toward the state's security costs.

3. They Just Told The Terrorists !

I can see why he would want to pull the national guard from guarding the bridge,
but should they be announcing this ?

They just sent a message to the terrorists that the bridge is unguarded now.

How stupid is that, does anyone besides me think it's really stupid to announce
you have pulled security from the bridge ?

If a democrat did this, the republiscums would want to try him for treason.

7. interesting approach. if something happens to the golden gate bridge,
it will have been a bad idea for arnie, but if nothing bad happens and the fear just sits there, it puts a lot of pressure on bushco to make good on their promises.
