FBI told police to hold Berg
http://www.news24.com/News24/World/Iraq/0,,2-10-1460_1526618,00.html

Mosul, Iraq - Nick Berg, the US hostage shown being beheaded by Islamic radicals, was held for two weeks in Iraq at the FBI's request for travelling without documents while his identity was checked, a US general said on Thursday.

"Berg was in Mosul. He was travelling alone. The Iraqi police found him without any documentation. Iraqi police was suspicious and took him into custody" Brigadier General Carter Ham, who heads the Olympia Task Force, said in this northern Iraqi city.

"FBI asked (police) to keep him until they knew who he was" Ham told journalists.

now they are admitting that the FBI is involved?

1. The Mosul police chief...
...said yesterday he'd never heard of Berg, and today said they didn't hold him at all and never picked him up. The FBI now says they questioned him three times while he was held by Mosul police, that they asked the police to hold him, and that it takes 2 weeks to confirm the identity of someone claiming to be a US citizen travelling alone in Iraq. Yeah, it's openess and honesty like this that makes me trust the government.

2. Now do we just wait for the FBI's denial?
Could this get any weirder?

3. Trust me it will.
I can no longer trust what my government says. It is heartbreaking that I no longer feel like an American Citizen like I did before bush. I hate him and all he stands for. His administration too. Including Powell.

6. I kept thinking Powell would resign before the war but instead
he sold out and it is worse because he knew what they were doing wasn't right.

Maybe it is the soldier in him to just take orders and shut up even if you disagree but he was the only one in the Administration that the world and a lot of Indy's and Dem's actually would believe and when he jumped on the war ship some people (not me) decided to give them the benefit of the doubt.

8. That's not being a soldier, honestly.
That's being a general, which is not the same thing anymore. Not the Pentagon corridor type, which is basically being a politician in a uniform. That's what Powell was. Before that, he was an officer known mainly for putting a good spin on My Lai and for being black and not too incompetent to promote.

Powell refused to believe that he was more than this, and in the process, transformed his belief into reality.

4. they previously acknowledged they interviewed him
The US spokesperson yesterday who denied he was in US custody nonetheless acknowledged that the FBI interviewed him 3 times while he was detained in Mosul. But they claimed he was not in the custody of the US military but rather of the Iraqi police. But the Mosul Iraqi police chief claims he has never heard of Berg.

Importantly, no one disputes he was released on April 6. On April 5, his parents filed the lawsuit against Rumsfeld claiming illegal detention.

5. But the Mosul police chief denied holding him.

I read that just 5 minutes ago!

OK, post #1 addressed that. But..

What about this about him having a passport with an Israel stamp on it? A passport counts as documentation, right? Or do they mean something else?...

11. He's a DYN CORP POLICE CHIEF, they have the contract for Iraq's police
and corrections. Also SAIC has 7 DoD contracts for broadcast media in Iraq, I'd bet Mr. Berg spoke to them at some point since he was inspecting radio towers in Iraq.

NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW.

7. BUZZFLASH: Similarities Between Nick Berg and Charles Horman (Chile
Edited on Thu May-13-04 04:52 PM by Say_What
<clips>

I couldn't help but be reminded today, while hearing the U.S. Gov't distance
themselves from the unfortunate beheading victim Nicholas Berg; of the case
featured in the 1982 Costa Gravis movie, "Missing".

As you may recall, the movie is about the murder, and search for information
regarding, American freelance writer Charles Horman. Horman went missing
in Santiago Chile shortly after the U.S. sponsored coupe de tat led by Pinochet
that began on, of all dates, September 11th, 1973.

As the U.S. government helped to obscure the ultimate fate of the missing
American, it came to light that police in Chile arrested Horman, interrogated,
murdered, then Dumped on the side of a road his body.

Justifications given by the Chileans, and our own State Dept. Representatives,
were that Charles Horman shouldn't have been where he was, when the coupe
was orchestrated. Further, he ran into many American's who were helping to
choreograph the coupe, and was seen taking notes on the conversations. In
short, Charles Horman was asking to be murdered.

12. Also..
the young man killed in Nucaragua. I can't think of his name at the moment, but someone will remember.

He was an engineer involved in a hydro-electric project. He also performed as a street clown for children. He was murdered by the Contras, and witnesses have said the CIA had become very interested in him just before his death.

10. What? I thought he had an Israeli passport, as was reported?
this story is starting to stink. And perhaps those that attacked us for being "conspiracy theorists" will think twice as the story gets wierder and wierder. My heartfelt condolences go out to Berg's loved ones.. I want the truth, as I'm sure they do.

13. I am barely believing what I just heard on cable tv (CNN, MSNBC?)
When he was at the University of Oklahoma, Berg loaned his laptop to a guy who sent an email to Moussaui!!!!!!!!!!

Fibbies investigated and concluded that's what happened!

I better go back out in the sun.
