Don't call workers mercenaries, says British company
THE GUARDIAN , MOYCOCK, N.C.
ADS1 Tuesday, May 18, 2004,Page 7

Global Risk Strategies is a UK company that developed an entrepreneurial edge to win lucrative military contracts from the US in Iraq. Where British or US ex-special forces soldiers can command hundreds of pounds sterling a day -- sometimes a lot more -- for their services, Global need only pay around a tenth of that amount a day to its 1,300 force of Fijians and Gurkhas.

The company is run by Da-mien Perl, 36, a former marine. He is described by those who have worked for him as "a hard-headed Yorkshireman, good at the financial deal, with a hankering for adventure." His fellow manager is Charlie Andrews, 34, a former Scots Guards officer, who flew to Washington last week to seek more contracts.

Andrews said intermittent protests in Fiji about their wages had been because "they don't understand the exchange rate -- this is a huge salary in relation to Fiji."

Global had a contract in the past to guard convoys exchanging currencies in Iraq. It has also acquired a contract to defend part of Baghdad airport's peri-meter, a contract formerly held by a rival firm, Custer Battles.

3. How About Hessians?
What an ignorant asshole this guy is.

Simply put, if they are in Iraq, representing the coalition (US), under arms, call them what they are, mercenaries!!

Oh, I forgot about the four guys that went sightseeing in Fallujah.
Tourists, weren't they, I think not!
What was their real purpose for going there? Perhaps to fuck with some innocent Iraqi people? I'm sorry, any way you look at it they were mercenaries!
