Army admits to recruiting mistake

FORT MYERS — The military is admitting that some of its personnel made a mistake that affects the futures of thousands of soldiers. One soldier's parents contacted ABC7 to say their son was being forced to join an active reserve unit or face a court martial. ABC7 did some digging and now the military admits some bad information was given out.

Nicki and Ron Wood want their son, Sam, to return home to Southwest Florida. After fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq, Sgt. Sam Wood is at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, waiting for his active duty to end in July.

"He said, 'Mom, just a few more weeks and I'm done, never again. I feel like I've been lied to,'" said Nicki Wood.

His parents say that last week a master sergeant told him he had to sign up for four more years, either by re-enlisting or becoming an active reserve member. Wood says the master sergeant told him if he didn't make a decision by this Thursday he could be court martialed.

2. Way to dog out military personnel...that'll keep the retention office busy

You want to see a non-governmental decrease in the amount of active duty and reserve component enlisted ranks, pay attention to the recruiting and retention records in the next 1-3 years. I am a peace-time veteran myself, however I know an entire battalion in Kuwait, who I served with, awaiting their convoy into Baghad, and according to their accounts, when their contract is up, a majority will not be re-upping. It's always lies, to cover up lies to cover up the original lie. Regardless if we vote for regime change in November, the fallout from this misadministration* will be felt for at least a decade. All for what?

I would have gone to see JAG immediately after I was told that garbage...These Dumbass soldiers have been duped...They need to file charges, but they are all probably too dumb to think of that too...I was in the Army and would have told that sgt where to go.

I worked at the ad agency that did the Be All You Can Be ads for the Army, and I remember something called the IRR that you were automatically transferred to once your enlistment was over.
