Red Cross condemns US "excessive" force in Iraq
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has condemned an "excessive" use of force by the US military, after reports accused troops of killing dozens of Iraqis at a wedding party.

"The excessive use of force violates international human rights," the ICRC spokeswoman in Baghdad, Nada Dumani, told AFP.

"Even if (you came under) fire, there are rules of proportion in retaliation and the absolute need to prevent civilian casualties," she added.

2. yeah, they're pretty outrageous
But they shouldn't be allowed to show their faces in public without being confronted with the truth of their deeds. Let them mock the dogooders a few thousand more times before November.

5. I'll be expecting to see that one soon: "evil dogooders."
You KNOW they want to use it!

This photo showed up in a google search and the CNN article's in Spanish, dated 3-31-04, and it refers to the Red Cross trying to see Iraqi prisoners.

I'm no swiftie reading Spanish without taking FOREVER using a Spanish-English dictionary, but maybe there's a Spanish speaker who could scan this article and see if CNN told its Spanish readers something we didn't hear on time:

8. I wonder what Libby Dole thinks.

Didn't she used to be associated with the Red Cross? I bet she's hoping nobody notices.

9. The story of the civilians killed in Karbala is being buried
Civilians Killed in Karbala

Karbala, Iraq - Nine civilians were killed and 16 others wounded overnight in the central Iraqi city of Karbala, a medic here said on Thursday, while a guard at a Shiite shrine claimed coalition planes targeted militiamen.

"During the night, nine dead civilians and 16 wounded, among them women and children, were brought in," said Ali Aradawi, who heads the emergency room at the main hospital in Karbala, where US forces and Shiite militiamen have been engaged in several weeks of fierce clashes.

A guard at one of the main Shiite shrines said "fighter planes fired rockets between the Hussein and Abbas mausoleums against militiamen of the Mehdi Army, killing and wounding a number of people".

This appears to be a pattern of recklessness. See also this AP survey of Iraqi morgues:

5,000 Iraqi deaths confirmed in Baghdad and three provinces

A survey of deaths in the first 12 months of the occupation of Iraq has found that more than 5,000 Iraqis have died violently in Baghdad and three provinces alone.

The toll from both criminal and political violence ran dramatically higher than violent deaths before the war, according to statistics from morgues.

There are no reliable figures for places like Fallujah and Najaf that have seen surges in fighting since early April.

11. Don't sugar coat it, Red Cross
It's torture -- quite a bit beyond what I would consider excessive force.
