Lynne Cheney Rebukes Kerry Over Education
Lynne Cheney Rebukes Kerry Over Education

Associated Press Writer

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry's criticism of President Bush's education record drew a rebuke Thursday from an unlikely source - Vice President Dick Cheney's wife. Cheney has been Kerry's chief White House critic.

But his wife, Lynne, who addressed the conservative New York-based Manhattan Institute, picked up the Bush re-election team's charge that Kerry often takes both sides of an issue. She noted the Massachusetts senator's vote for the president's No Child Left Behind education initiative, which he now criticizes.

``Certainly it's hard to come up with a satisfying explanation for his change of heart about No Child Left Behind,'' she said. ``Maybe it's simply this: When you run for president against an incumbent, it's really hard to say, 'Good job, Mr. President.' But President Bush has done a good job.''

If her husband "the real president" funded the program then Kerry might not now be against it! BTW: I want to see her tax return!

22. No, she's pretty smart
The Republican spin machine wants to repeat the message over and over and over again: Kerry is a flip flopper. Cheney probably doesn't believe it, and certainly anyone who is half paying attention won't believe it. But the message will seep down to the apathetic voters who determine the election.

Did anyone see Karen Hughs on the Jon Stewart show? She had the audacity to say "I liked your piece on Kerry in which you show him snow boarding to the left and snow boarding to the right and showing how he can't stand firm on an issue."

Jon had to point out that the piece was satire--satire against the Bush spin machine. That didn't faze Hughs. She knew her job is to repeat the flip flop piece as much as she can, no matter how much of an ass she is being.

It is a brilliant (and despicable) strategy. No matter what Kerry says, they will say "Oh boy, you are flip flopping again." Imagine if Bush blew up all of Alaska and Kerry came out and said "His use of power is reckless!"

The Bush machine would say "Well, John Kerry voted to give Bush the authority to use power and now he is changing his mind."

See? You don't have to answer to why Bush blew up Alaska. *And* you put the spotlight on Kerry.

Watch how our lazy media will puppet this theme.

28. Repukes can win on facts, or on issues
so their tactic is always:

attack the messenger
smear the opponent, assassinate his character
accuse him of doing the SAME things Repukes are doing (and they're often doing it to a degree 10X worse)
and most importantly:
detract
detract
detract
detract
attention from the facts, from the lies, from the issues whilst doing it.

THEN, apathetic, stupid, dittohead Americans swallow it whole like a bunch of Monicas during a collective blowjob (sorry the imagry but it fits)

And Viola!

Trash like bu$hit end up in the white house.

Of course it doesn't hurt to have cronies like Diebold rigging election machines for you, cronies like DBT creating 'voter cleansing lists' to cleanse voter roles of those most likely to vote Democratic, yo brother in states like FL and a meathead actor in states like CA to manipulate things for your party, a usurping court appointed by your Daddy, Ray Gun and friends to make sure no one else gets elected, etc. etc...

yee haaa

6. Or maybe he simply found out that teh "Texas model"...
Edited on Thu May-20-04 05:53 PM by Mithras61
has been rigged so badly that the whole thing is worse than useless, performing such wonderful services as disappearing hundreds of thouhsands of TX children from school roles, forcing teachers to "teach the test," having absolutely NO effect whatsoever on scores on standardized national tests (except to make them drop relative to other states), and so on...

or maybe he feels that Chimpy's underfunding of education programs makes the "No Child Left Behind" act the worst kind of bad joke - an unfunded mandate to the states (! wow, that almost sounds Repukelican!)

or maybe he's learned that high-stakes testing tends to have a detrimental effect on education...

edited to add...

Oh, and by the way, Lynne, you're now fair game in this campaign...

7. Who the hell is she?
Edited on Thu May-20-04 06:00 PM by Marianne
Remember that
Richard Clarke revealed how this helmut hair, bimbo kept cutting off the crucial communications in the White House underground and secure bunker on 9-11 because she could not hear CNN's broadcast when the phone kept ringing? Therefore, Clarke had difficulty communicating with crucial personnel. Totally unaware and totally a bimbo. She and the other airhead, Laura, make a good pair. Dumb as a box of doorknobs--both of them.

14. I thought it was for another reason

I read what Richard Clarke said and I think that is what he was told.
I really think The Hateful Cheneys were cutting off that phone so they could find out from their Buddy Neo Cons what he should do next.

Cheney may have also been trying to get his pacemaker together and they didn't want anyone to know. The whole group lies so much!!!
How could a man with a non functioning heart endure such pressure as 911!!?

Yet, they make it out that Cheney was "on top of events." Right--!
She was running our government and she is an evil woman.

12. Ted Kennedy doesn't care for Chimpy's education plan, either
And Ted was in the Rose Garden for the big signing ceremony. It was only after the Republican Congress and administration gutted the bill and left it gasping like a halibut on the dock that it became apparent what a bill of goods the Republicans had sold to the public.

So add Kennedy to the list, Lynne. You, your husband, his whole faithless cabal have broken trust with the public, and you'll be held accountable come November. Maybe sooner.

17. She just has to spout a few "talking points."

Some are familiar: "..Lynne .. picked up the Bush re-election team's charge that Kerry often takes both sides of an issue."

Some are just jibber-jabber: "Lynne Cheney responded that 'money is not the be-all and end-all in education.'"

20. "an unlikely source" my ass, Nedra
wtf kind of mental gymnastics does Ms. Pickler go through to come up with the notion that it is surprising that "Dick Cheney's wife" rebukes John Kerry's criticism of Bush?

Lynne doesn't even rate a name in the article until she has been referred to as wife twice. I'd say she would be a quite likely critic.

A more likely source there never was.

"Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry's criticism of President Bush's education record drew a rebuke Thursday from an unlikely source - Vice President Dick Cheney's wife. Cheney has been Kerry's chief White House critic.

But his wife, Lynne, who addressed the conservative New York-based Manhattan Institute, picked up the Bush re-election team's charge that Kerry often takes both sides of an issue."

26. new acts
Doesn't she know that new acts such as No Child Left Behind don't always end up the way the people who voted for it intended it to?

These acts take awhile to see if it's a good plan or not.

It seemed like a good idea to me at first, but the amount of stress put on teachers with no increase in pay would want me to vote against it too...

Have you seen her nauseating book, "A Is For America". I almost bought it for my brother's kids as a joke, but figured on second thought that he probably wouldn't find it amusing.
