US ambassador to Germany seen as possible successor to Rumsfeld: press
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20040522/pl_afp/iraq_us_germany_rumsfeld&cid=1521&ncid=1473

BERLIN (AFP) - US national security advisor Condoleezza Rice (news - web sites) has asked the US ambassador to Germany Daniel Coats if he would like to become defence secretary should Donald Rumsfeld step down, it was reported.

Rice sounded out Coats, 61, over the job while she was visiting Berlin earlier this month, the weekly Focus magazine cited diplomatic sources as saying.

Coats, a Republican, replied that he was available, the sources said.

A spokesman for the US embassy in Berlin told AFP: "We can't comment on that, except that we expect him (Coats) to be here in Berlin until the (presidential) election in November".

<< Defence Secretary Rumsfeld's political future remains uncertain amid the scandal of the sexual humiliation and abuse of Iraqi prisoners by US soldiers at Abu Ghraib prison near Baghdad. >>

You won't be needing to memorize this face. Gee look ...

So, the BFEE is gonna dump cRummy are they? Got their new defence secretary already hand-picked I see.

Admittedly, I know nothing about Daniel Coats (R), not even where he is from. Does he have a history? Lots of questions, no answers as usual.

Any clues on this mystery man?

:wtf:

:dem: :kick:

updated to fix picture link of Coats

2. Isn't that admiting failure?
Bush probably won't let Rumsfeld go until after the election ... if he manages to survive it that is.

6. Doesn't "ambassador" mean "rich and useless"?
It's a payoff job for massive fundraising.

8. "useless" is the point here
Coats must be the most incompetent Ambassador ever. Heck, Bush will win a lot of points with me, if he removes Coats from Berlin.

So far he was unable to look smart or diplomatic.

If he had done his job instead of crying "Anti-American" every time someone said anything against the Iraq war, we might not be in this mess right now.
Sad story is that the media believed the "Anti-American" whining without even looking at the arguments.
