Sam's Club markets bulk 'Passion' videos to churches
LITTLE ROCK (AP) — Mainstream retailer Sam's Club began offering 50-copy "church packs" of Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ this week, in a twist on usual ways of selling to religious groups.

Advance sales for the film's Aug. 31 release on DVD and video cassette already have exceeded expectations for the retailer, the warehouse club division of Wal-Mart Stores (WMT).

2. "The Passion" will be another "Titanic"
Every teen-age girl in America bought "Titanic" a couple of years ago. When was the last time someone actually sat down and watched it? Fundy types will plunk down their Catholic Mel's opus, and it will gather dust on their shelf. Or they'll buy it for their "unsaved" friends, praying that the power and majesty of the Holy Snuff Film will bring their friends to Jesus (and because it's easier, faster and less risky than actually building a relationship). And it will gather dust on their friends' shelves.

Look for it in the remainder bin by Christmas, and in a two-for-one package by Easter 2005 -- if you absolutely must have it.

3. And Jesus sayeth unto mankind,
"Go, and find thou a way to make another quick buck by capitalizing on my grisly torture and death."

Funny, I always thought the Resurrection was the point, not the scourging and crucifixion. A lot of people were scourged and crucified. As far as the Bible says, only one was resurrected.

6. Who cares?
They're marketing to people who want to buy the film, the same people who spent all that money to see it in the theaters in the first place. I say, if they want to buy it and let it collect dust, that's their business. As far as profiting on grisly torture and death. Doesn't that happen a lot in the movie business. Horror movies, holocaust movies, and crime movies (like Goodfellas, Scarface, and The Godfather) do it all the time, though they're not always so graphic. As long as they're not forcing anyone to buy or watch it, who really cares?

4. Goody Packs!
Maybe they'll hand them out as goody packs to the little kids in Sunday School!

How much are they charging for a 50-pack of The Greatest Gorefest Ever Told?

12. Wouldn't that be sensational???
Having their young kids watch the movie and be forever scarred for life.

How many kids will be removed from their families because the parents abused their children by forcing them to watch the movie??

11. I liked Jesus Christ Super Star
Edited on Fri Jun-11-04 06:17 PM by Mountainman
I liked the singing and dancing. I didn't see the Passion but I don't think it has as much singing and dancing.

I don't remember if they sold 50 packs of Jesus Christ Supper Star but then musicals don't sell as well as violence flicks.

14. I'm not sure...
of anything in these times, actually....

Mel took a risk to do the movie (as I am told). Mel has honest eyes whenever I see him on some crappy talkshow (they're human looking).

I don't necessarily believe in jesus the guy, but I thoroughly believe there is a jesus particle in all of us. tamped down by the fucking gluttoness money changers warmongerers.
