US To Erase Iraq's Historical Legacy
Informed sources in the Iraqi puppet “ministry of culture” have told Quds Press that an attempt is under way to move ancient Iraqi Assyrian treasures to America. The sources say that there have been bilateral meetings between US and Iraqi representatives in the “ministry” on the matter of moving the treasures to the United States, where the items are regarded as some of the most valuable ancient treasures and artifacts in Iraq.

Meanwhile feverish attempts are underway by US companies to buy the al-Qishlah and Suq as-Saray areas on the banks of the Tigris River. They aim to erect residences and commercial buildings in place of the buildings presently on the site. Al-Qishlah, which overlooks the Tigris River, was the seat of government in Iraq during the Ottoman times. It was formerly restored and renovated in accordance with the architectural norms of that period during the rule of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

2. DAMN THEM!
DAMNED DEVELOPERS!!!!! BASTARDS!!!!!!!!! That's sacred ground!!!!!!!! That's a legacy not JUST to Iraq, but to the whole world. Why don't they just put up a Disneyland and a couple of Walmarts and a modern-day Levittown while they're at it, just to complete the picture? Lots of carwashes and burger stands and nail salons. That's a good cultural contribution, right? And all the parking lots you can eat!

Shit. First we ignore the museums so they're among the first spots to be trashed and looted. Then we bomb the shit out of everywhere so any archaeological sites under the surface are thoroughly compromised and undermined. Then we book the bulldozers to take out what's left. THIS is the democracy we just HAD to ram down their throats at gunpoint, 'eh?

NO WONDER THEY HATE US!!!! NO DUH!!!!!

Sorry for yelling and ranting, but I spent too much time during my school years in art history class. Those are treasures you can't just go buy, mass-produced from Taiwan, at Bloomingdales.

If there's a hell, you can bet it'll be VERY well-paved and flimsy and plastic and over-developed.

9. I agree with you 100%
It is just unbelievable that no one in this administration seems to have any concept about the importance of preserving everything in Iraq. It's like they never heard of the Babylonians, etc. Not even Ur apparently. I just stand with my mouth open when I hear about all the destruction in this country. Of course, I believe it's even worse to destroy people but what can you expect of such ignorance.

4. this was reported in "archaeological magazine"
at the start of the war. a group of dealers and others meant with the whitehouse and proposed that Iraqi treasures be moved for safe keeping. they were turned down at that time. the museums were looted and surprise! only certain items were taken.to make it even worse is that the Iraq`s were still recovering items from the southern sites that were looted during the first gulf war.

this is no bullshit, the bastards are out to rob the western world of some of it`s greatest treasures
