Two Florida DCF Administrators Resign
http://www.weartv.com/news/Stories/July/0716/dcf0716.shtml

Two top administrators have resigned from Florida's Department of Children and Families.

That's after an investigation revealed they were accepting free gifts from lobbyists who had multi-million dollar contracts with the agency.

Secretary Jerry Regier was also implicated in the report.. for accepting gifts from a vendor who had two million dollars worth of contracts with D.C.F. Regier says he has no plans to quit.

There will also be remedial ethics training for the upper management officials at D.C.F.

This is from the local tv news station. I googled and could not find anything else. I love the part about "remedial ethics training", this implies that there was "initial ethics training" and I am really curious about that.

1. DU'ers will remember Jeb Bush's appointment of Jerry Regier
Edited on Fri Jul-16-04 06:38 PM by JudiLyn
to his DFC, of the appalling mess it's in, and Regier's quirky, fundie view of life, with the norm being the wife off in the kitchen and the family reading the Bible together after dinner, and any deviation from this pattern being worthy of capital punishment.

It's so sad to see problems springing up there for them. I hope it won't dim their faith in privatizing every aspect of state government, snicker, sneer.

On edit:

I need to add this photo, which I just located, looking for a "thumbs up" from an Iraqii citizen:

2. From DU's own "Top Ten"
http://www.democraticunderground.com/top10/02/81.html from August 26, 2002

1. Jerry Regier
Florida's Department of Children and Families managed to get on the list last week (see Idiots 80), and now their new boss has made it on - in his first week on the job. Last week Jeb Bush named Jerry Regier to be the new head of the DCF. Hours later it was revealed that Mr. Regier had previously made some, shall we say, "insane" comments. See if you can guess which ones they are! A) "biblical spanking temporary and superficial bruises or welts do not constitute child abuse." B) Christians should not marry non-Christians. C) Wives should view working outside the home as "bondage." D) The "radical feminist movement has damaged the morale of many women and convinced men to relinquish their biblical authority in the home." The answer? Yep - it's all of them of course. The man who is to be charged with the welfare of Florida's children and families thinks that keeping your woman indoors and beating your kids is just the right thing to do.

4. here's another article. if you do a search at news.google.com for
florida jerry regier there's a whole bunch of them now.

http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/9167837.htm?1c

The head of Florida's child welfare agency apologized and two of his high-ranking officials resigned Thursday after a sweeping investigation concluded that the two developed unethical relationships and used their influence to steer thousands of dollars in business to friends.

The probe, whose findings were released Wednesday by the governor's office of inspector general, prompted a public apology from Jerry Regier, secretary of the Florida Department of Children & Families, and led to the voluntary resignation of top deputies Ben Harris and Glenn Palmiere.

Prompted by a complaint from an unidentified whistle-blower, the investigation substantiated claims that Regier stayed overnight at the $2.8 million Longboat Key beach home of Jim Bax, whose Florida State University research center has received more than $4 million in contracts from the DCF since 2002.

5. Just a bit more proof
That the republican party is the largest organized criminal conspiracy in the US. Not that most of us need any more to be convinced.
