California congressional Dems endorse Bustamante
LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- California's Democratic congressional delegation on Thursday endorsed Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante's bid for governor, even as the lawmakers reiterated their opposition to the gubernatorial recall.

"We strongly oppose the recall, but if California voters make a different choice, then Lt. Gov. Bustamante is the appropriate person to assume the office," said a statement released by Rep. Zoe Lofgren, the chairwoman of the state's Democratic congressional delegation.

The move could be a blow to embattled incumbent Gray Davis, who has struggled to maintain a picture of Democratic unity in the face of the GOP-initiated recall.

The delegation's statement came after a conference call of its members, including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

1. Won't get to second part of ballot
Like teenagers waking up from their first night of benge drinking, Californians are waking up from the recall "campaign" wondering 'Why did we do it?' They'll end up keeping Davis.

hard for that to play -- especially if you are trying to say it's not a democrat party fault.

4. great news ?
what a sorry excuse to attack the most pro gay pro coice Gov in our history. I don't know what Cruz's feelings are but i bet not as open as Gray's. You are obviously too young to remember the days before the Brown act(willie). and are taking a whole lot for granted - Careful what you wish for Dwick.you vote yes on recall and yes on bustamante may just backfire(for sure it will) on you.

5. Eating charisma, starving for charisma
Davis was good in his belated words in his defense. The delivery was like a giant mute on a saxophone though. Somewhere below Lieberman on the excitement scale. Bustamantewas better but extremely practical and serious.

The clown is on fire, an empty stage suit attended by a host of peculiar wannabes.

The people are VERY emotional. Their nerves on edge want it both ways, to deny the clown is bad, to pretend the Dems are promising and on fire.

Will someone get them off the seesaw and back to earth- or take them soaring into simplistic madness? And only a tiny portion of the electorate needs to go looney. And the thoughtful people to be reasonably divided or unconvinced to rally behind ANY good solution.

6. Good
All we need now is for the voters to accept the tax hike and go back to good solid democratic control. Toss out the rest of the repubs in the house and senate and let the money flow. Anybody that is not willing to fork over 50+ percent of their wages to help the needy and illegal immigrants doesn't deserve to live in the great state of California anyway. You wanna play you gotta pay.
