Insurgents showing no sign of letting up....(could go on for 10 yrs)
Nearly two months after the establishment of a sovereign Iraqi government, the violent attacks on U.S. and Iraqi forces show no sign of flagging.

A USA TODAY database, which analyzed unclassified U.S. government security reports, shows attacks against U.S. and allied forces have averaged 49 a day since the hand-over of sovereignty June 28, compared with 52 a day in the four weeks leading up to the transfer.

Iraqi guerrillas are relying heavily on weapons that allow them to attack and then slip away, such as roadside bombs and mortars. In June and July, U.S. and Iraq forces were attacked with 759 roadside bombs and uncovered at least 400 others before they exploded.

U.S. officials had said they expected the attacks to drop as Iraqis re-established control over their country. Their thinking: Iraqi security forces would be better at gathering intelligence, and support for militants would erode because insurgents would be attacking Iraqis rather than U.S. occupation forces

"If we have the political will and stamina to stay, I could see this going on for 10 years," says Randolph Gangle, a retired officer who heads the Marine Corps' Center for Emerging Threats and Opportunities in Quantico, Va

1. How many Americans must die for Bush's war? Now many Iraqis?
This is suicidal for humanity.

We need to turn the country over to the Iraqis and get the fuck out of there. The REAL Iraqis. the Sunnis and Shia NOT the BFEE/Oil Iraqis.

Insanity

5. Iraq will become Kerry's war the moment he takes the Oath of Office
Kerry will have two choices: get the Hell out, or adopt a Nixonian "peace with honor." Kerry will catch flak if he does the former, but it will save lives and it would be the correct course of action. If Kerry chooses the latter course, he will end up like Nixon.

2. I guess this ...
shows attacks against U.S. and allied forces have averaged 49 a day since the hand-over of sovereignty June 28, compared with 52 a day in the four weeks leading up to the transfer.

is where the media got the nonsense that attacks have dropped since the "transfer of power" ... 3 less attacks per day - more deaths - but 3 fewer attacks :eyes:

3. surprise, surprise, surprise
Who coulda possibly imagined that the wonderful idea of conquering and then trying to occupy a muslim country would have led to an intractable insurgency, making the occupation impossible to maintain?

I just don't get it....

NO ONE could have seen this coming. No one at all. Not even LordGodBushOurSaviour.

7. Yeah, and things were to quite down after Uday and Qusay Hussein
were killed by U.S. troops, on July 2003.
Even showed the bodies to the world so the Iraqis wouldn't be afraid anymore, 'eh? Then after the capture of Saddam Hussein things were indeed gonna be much better.

Now after the transfer of power, (whatever that's suppose to Mean) things were indeed gonna go more smoothly.

All hell hasn't broke loose yet, but it will!!

10. I say we pull out when Kerry gets in...

I pray that in his wisdom he will find a way to pull out with honor.
Even the Rethugs know this is a no win situation.

When Halliburton stops getting contracts they will want to pull out too.

8. The Soviet Union broke apart thanks to its ten year debacle in Afghanistan
The US is fighting a war on two fronts, and if Bush gets in, the US will be in Iran and Syria as well.

9. so the month after 10 years they stop?
that's how Vietnam ended, not

Nixon bombed the crap out of them to force them to the negotiating table, rammed a stupid useless peace plan down their throats, then we split and Saigon fell. Let's not wait 10 years

11. IIRC, this shows they are getting desperate.
I'm pretty sure that's was Dicky Cheney said last year when attacks against US forces began to escalate.

I don't think Shrub will be happy until every Muslim in the entire world wants to become a terrorist.
