Republicans say US ready to take on China, North Korea
NEW YORK (AFP)

President George W. Bush's Republican party warned the United States would not tolerate aggression from North Korea or any Chinese military moves against Taiwan.

On day one of their national convention, the party adopted a tough-talking platform that hailed Bush's war on terrorism and vowed no let-up in his efforts to realign global priorities and push for democracy around the world.

In the section on Asia, the Republicans took special aim at China, expressing "profound disagreements" on human rights, over Taiwan and on Beijing's "outdated path" of seeking to develop advanced weaponry.

"We deny the right of Beijing to impose its rule on the free Taiwanese people. All issues regarding Taiwan's future must be resolved peacefully and must be agreeable to the people of Taiwan," the party said. ..

I have other priorities than military service. I have a life and it does not belong to George W. Bush, Halliburton and other conservative white men. They and their sons can go and fight a war in North Korea and China if two wars in this Administration was not enough.

46. I'll be stateside with you!!!
If you believe Kinsey, at least 10% of us (me included) will not be going as we are "incompatible" with military service! Then, there will be the ones like Chris Rock who said; "If gays want to serve in the army, let'em, cuz I ain't going! I don't care if I see a Russian tank rolling down Flatbush Ave, I ain't fightin'! Call me a faggot! I'll be the faggot with two legs!" And finally, there will be the ones who can't go for some reason or another, only to become Re-pugs that demand you send YOUR children or you "ain't a real Amerikun!"

This administration is hell-bent on destroying our nation one way or another...either through piss poor economics or getting us killed in fruitless (there is a joke there I know it!) wars!

Brightest Blessings!

8. Ready?
What a freaking idiot. We are totally unprepared to contest a Chinese move to conquer Taiwan. Politically and economically, the Chinese have exploited American trade policy and our predicament in Iraq to full advantage. We cannot truly fault them for indulging in some mild expansionism if we make it so easy for them.

No, I do not trust the Chinese. Their treatment of Tibet provides adequate basis for this distrust. Yet, Bush and the globalists have fulfilled Lenin's prophecy: "When it comes time to hang the West, a capitalist will sell me the rope." We outsource engineering jobs to China to exploit lower labor costs while they mass missiles against Taiwan.

Is it just me or is it stupid, at this point, for Bush to be saying, "Just bring it" to the Chinese?

13. Is anyone going to bring up PNAC
Edited on Mon Aug-30-04 11:08 PM by cal04
The Sunday Herald article highlighted the following goals from the 2000 report, which it termed an "American grand strategy" and "blueprint of world domination":

The U.S. must take military control of the Gulf region whether or not Saddam Hussein is in power: "While the unresolved conflict with Iraq provides the immediate justification, the need for a substantial American force presence in the Gulf transcends the issue of the regime of Saddam Hussein."
The U.S. must "fight and decisively win multiple, simultaneous major theatre wars" as a "core mission"
The U.S. forces are "the cavalry on the new American frontier"
The report builds upon the 1992 draft document " Defense Planning Guidance," which claimed that the U.S. must "discourage advanced industrial nations from challenging our leadership or even aspiring to a larger regional or global role"
Permanent U.S. bases in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, whether or not Saddam Hussein is in power
Increasing military pressure on China: "it is time to increase the presence of American forces in southeast Asia" which will lead to "American and allied power providing the spur to the process of democratisation in China"
"the creation of 'US Space Forces', to dominate space, and the total control of cyberspace to prevent 'enemies' using the internet against the US"
The report contains ambivalent language toward bioterrorism and genetic warfare: "New methods of attack -- electronic, 'non-lethal', biological -- will be more widely available ... combat likely will take place in new dimensions, in space, cyberspace, and perhaps the world of microbes ... advanced forms of biological warfare that can 'target' specific genotypes may transform biological warfare from the realm of terror to a politically useful tool"
Development of "world-wide command-and-control system" to contain dangerous regimes of North Korea, Libya, Syria, and Iran.
Some of PNAC's members and associates have been implicated in conflict of interest scandals involving the ways that they profit from the wars and military spending that they promote. For more information, see Who Profits From War? .

China is not Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran nor Syria. It has a military, an air force and more. We are back to May/June 2001.

Here's Professor Krugman's cold water:

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/08/31/opinion/31krugman.html?hp

Last month a Knight-Ridder report suggested that U.S. forces were effectively ceding many urban areas to insurgents. Last Sunday The Times confirmed that while the world's attention was focused on Najaf, western Iraq fell firmly under rebel control. Representatives of the U.S.-installed government have been intimidated, assassinated or executed.

Other towns, like Samarra, have also fallen to insurgents. Attacks on oil pipelines are proliferating. And we're still playing whack-a-mole with Moktada al-Sadr: his Mahdi Army has left Najaf, but remains in control of Sadr City, with its two million people. The Christian Science Monitor reports that "interviews in Baghdad suggest that Sadr is walking away from the standoff with a widening base and supporters who are more militant than before."

For a long time, anyone suggesting analogies with Vietnam was ridiculed. But Iraq optimists have, by my count, already declared victory three times. First there was "Mission Accomplished" - followed by an escalating insurgency. Then there was the capture of Saddam - followed by April's bloody uprising. Finally there was the furtive transfer of formal sovereignty to Ayad Allawi, with implausible claims that this showed progress - a fantasy exploded by the guns of August.
