Artist promotes 'patriot' work in N.Y. (Bush on horseback w/ OBL's Head)
Edited on Tue Aug-31-04 10:37 AM by khephra
snip....

On one wall, a buff, shirtless President Bush is a prizefighter, standing over his fallen opponent in the ring: filmmaker Michael Moore. Another work, titled "Larger Than Life," is an 8-foot-tall rendering of Ronald Reagan. And the piece de resistance: Bush on horseback, triumphantly clutching the severed head of Osama bin Laden, by the turban, in his right hand. It is called "Have Faith."

It's all the work of Scott LoBaido, a self-styled "creative patriot" who believes passionately that the fate of the country depends on this election — and that Bush is the only choice.

"I wanted to let the Republicans know there are some creative people in this city who are on their side," the 39-year-old artist said last week as his exhibit opened just before the Republican National Convention.

The work isn't subtle. One of LoBaido's pieces shows a NASCAR-style race car labeled "Bush/Cheney" barreling toward a bewildered-looking donkey, and another shows a match close to a U.S. flag with the caption "Don't Even Think About It."

3. IMNVHO
These people see in * what they don't have in themselves. Real strength and real masculinity. Because they don't have it in themselves, they can't see that * doesn't have it either. It's the hollywood thing. People believe that the actor is what they portray on the screen.

4. hero worship at its most nauseating
This turd of a human artist is just sucking up to republican pocketbooks.

There is an entire psychology of some humans that describes a pathological addiction to "heroic" figures, and throughout history with the help of artists like LoBaido, we have immortalized and idealized tyrants in overdeveloped bodies and improbable acts.

It's all part of the Republican irrationality -- believe in what's not there, including dumbya as a brave and heroic leader.

for cryin' out loud the man is a raving drooling idiot who is incapable of riding a tricycle or eating a pretzel. For someone who runs three five minutes miles per day, he's got a beer gut that would make rush proud.

Some day LoBaido's pieces will be in a museum retrospective of dumbya, and people will look at them and sneer (or shudder). Lenin's statues were pulled down. Hitler's statues were pulled down. Saddam's statues were pulled down. We'll keep ours in a museum.

5. Is Mr. LaBadio aware that Bush doesn't like horses?
Actually, his portrayals of Bush fit in with my image of him as an overgrown kid with who spends too much time with superhero comic books and Westerns.

7. Hey! I'm an overgrown kid who spends too much time with
superhero comics! No westerns, though. ;-)

Then again, I don't want to rule the world.

9. That's not art. It's schlock!
The kind of drek that will be painted over soon because the canvas is far more valuable than the image upon it.

14. It's not that Bush doesn't "like" horses--
but that he is scared to death of them.

Also, I thought his supporters were horrified that the Iraqi insurgents were so barbaric that they beheaded people. Doesn't this picture glorifiy the idea of beheading a person? I assume this "artist" would just love to see us place our enemies' heads on pikes in front of the WHite House.
