Thompson: Bush improved health care worldwide
NEW YORK - Health care for people across the world has improved under President Bush, Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson said Tuesday as Republicans sought to showcase the compassionate side of Bush's conservatism.

Thompson said residents of Afghanistan and Iraq, especially women and children, receive far better health care since the United States overthrew their ruling regimes.

He also praised Bush administration efforts to distribute anti-viral drugs in AIDS-ravished Africa. And Thompson promoted the enactment of a prescription drug benefit for Medicare recipients in the United States.

"George W. Bush has delivered not only in America, but he's delivered worldwide. He's given people hope and opportunity and a chance to live," Thompson told members of Missouri's delegation to the Republican National Convention.

However, it will go unchalleneged and become the truth.

The only AIDS programs the Dubya adminsitration will support are those pushing abstinence-only.

When you've got a do nothing administration that screws up right and left when it does do anything, what else can you do?

Pitifiul.

Thompson should be ashamed. I know the great state of Wisconsin is right now.

14. the more people die before they can get to the hospital, the better
for the remaining people who have health care...

I guess you could call that improving the health care system...for the ones who actually still can afford health insurance.

16. The lying makes me feel violent
Of course, I am a pacifist - but I get so angry when they continue to lie through their teeth....and then get away with it.

For instance, in this report from The State, the reporter just echoed what Thompson said - he never confirmed nor disputed it.

Just an echo.

Didn't Bush STOP aids drugs or greatly curtail their distribution to Africa????????

19. You know TIME magazine isn't exactly a subversive zine...
And I remember reading an article in it last month that interviewed a 70 year old Pediatrician in Baghdad. He said whooping cough, malnutrition and other illnesses were regularly seen there since the war began and they had not been seen there in decades. Lack of clean water, electricity, fresh food, sanitation and sunshine (most people stay inside during the day from fear)...people, especially children were very sick.

Sickening lies.

21. In a Recent Bid For Money
I got from Doctors Without Borders, whom I give money to several times a year, in their statement about pulling out of Afghanistan because five of their workers were murdered, they stated that the health care situation there was worsening. Since they weren't soliciting for money for aid to Afghanistan, I figured this was probably accurate.

This is one of those things the administration can say, knowing it's difficult to prove otherwise. Who of us here has firsthand knowledge of the state of medical care in Afghanistan?

23. Yeah right!
Yes, because Medecins Sans Frontieres didn't have to withdraw partly from Afghanistan, where they've been working tirelessly for decades, because 5 of their employees were killed by Afghani warlords. MSF talks about "the politicization of aid underway since the fall of the Taliban, advocated by the international community with the tacit acceptance of many NGOs, has proven dangerous for humanitarian organizations and has undercut Afghans' access to assistance that is truly need-based." This has really improved the health care for women and children in Afghanistan.

Gah! One of those doctors killed worked at the same hospital as me, and though I never met him, I can't help be enraged by the mixing of aid and military operations that really endanger neutral foreign health care workers in Afghanistan and Iraq.

25. Sickening
Added former White House spokesman Ari Fleischer: "One of my best memories of working for President Bush is what a wonderful, compassionate, warm, caring soul he is."

He probably is compassionate to his large campaign donors.

Anyone know where I can acquire a copy of Bush mocking Carla Fay Tucker? MoveOn should air an ad about "The Faces of Compassion" and show Bush mocking her.
