Family Struck Financially After Father Called To Duty
A Central Valley family could lose its home after one of its members joined the National Guard and financial problems ensued. But an Assembly bill could help the family and many others in the same situation.

Jim and Korina Self are the parents of six children. They say it's difficult to talk about their financial problems, but they hope by doing so, they can bring attention to a new child-care bill.

The family says it was forced to file for bankruptcy when Jim Korina was called to active duty as a member of the National Guard reserves.

Jim Korina took a leave of absence from his job, meaning the family income dropped from $80,000 to $45,000 a year.

4. why do they hate America, unlike Gloria Smith ....
Voters such as Gloria Smith explain this political dynamic. While Smith's husband, who works for American Airlines, recently took an $800 monthly pay cut, the homemaker from Sand Springs, Okla., just changed her voter registration from Democrat to Republican.

Smith said her family was "better off" than it was four years ago, "because we've learned to live within our means."
