JERUSALEM (CNN ) -- A Palestinian Qassam rocket hit a street between two buildings Wednesday in the Israeli town of Sderot, killing two children and wounding at least 15 other people, the Israeli military said.
Three of the wounded are in serious condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.
She said a baby boy was among the dead. The Israeli army said the second fatality was a child, but had no further details.
The rocket was believed to have been fired from northern Gaza by Palestinian militants. Sderot is very near the Gaza border.
Earlier Wednesday, east of Gaza's Jebalya refugee camp, Israeli forces identified three militants trying to launch a Qassam rocket. Israeli forces fired on them and one of the militants was hit, Israeli military sources said.
