Nethercutt uses Osama bin Laden in ad assailing Murray
http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/aplocal_story.asp?category=6420&slug=Osama%20Ad

By DAVID ESPO
AP SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., has "a different view of Osama bin Laden," her campaign rival charged Wednesday in an attack ad that uses a picture of the al-Qaida leader and the senator's words to challenge her credentials in the war on terror.

"She did not praise Osama bin Laden and we should stop playing politics with the war on terror and get on with winning it," countered Alex Glass, a spokeswoman for Murray. She called the commercial a "desperate political attack" by GOP rival George Nethercutt, who trails in the polls.

The ad shows Murray telling an audience in 2002 that bin Laden had been at work in unnamed countries "for decades building schools, building roads, building infrastructure, building day care facilities, building health care facilities. And the people are extremely grateful," she says.

"He's made their lives better. We have not done that," she adds.

1. "A better story than losing a couple of soldiers every day" - Nethercutt
"The story of what we've done in the postwar period is remarkable. ... It is a better and more important story than losing a couple of soldiers every day." George Nethercutt (R-WA)

Elway Poll: Demos Gregoire, Kerry, Murray lead
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Democratic candidates for president, governor and U.S. Senate all had sizable leads in a new poll published Wednesday by independent pollster Stuart Elway.

Democratic presidential challenger Sen. John Kerry was favored by 52 percent, to President Bush's 38 percent, with the rest undecided or for minor party candidates.

Two Democratic women also were out in front of their GOP challengers. Christine Gregoire, the three-term attorney general who is hoping to succeed fellow Democrat Gary Locke in the governor's office, had 49 percent to Republican Dino Rossi's 38 percent.

Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., who seeks a third six-year term, was far ahead of her challenger, Rep. George Nethercutt, R-Wash., 57 percent to 37 percent.

IMO, Murray is safe unless electronic voting machine fraud throws the election to Nethercutt.

When Nethercutt starts hauling out OBL as a campaign issue, you know he's down and desperate, and sinking fast.

6. This guy must be a proctologist...he's a perfect asshole
The problem is he is spawned from Eastern Washington (of where i have been condemned) and it is a republican stronghold.
Check intelligence at the door as you cross the Cascades, it is not required here. As is proven by Nethercutt, Hastings, Deccio and the whole hee haw gang.

11. He ran his 2nd term saying that Eastern WA. needs a permanent
fighter , to offset the Democrats in Western WA. Now he lives in Bellevue (upper class bedroom of Seattle).

5. She should respond QUICKLY with Bush funding the Taliban
Bush offering 43 million to the Taliban before 9/11, even though he knew they were harboring bin Laden. Bush's old man supporting the funding of bin Laden in Afghanistan in the 80's. Bush ties to the bin Laden familiy and the Saudi's.

She better hit back hard on this one or she will get Clellandized.

10. Nethercutt has never dealt with a hostile press
Edited on Wed Sep-29-04 04:45 PM by Diane R
I have never posted in DU before, but I have to speak up here.

I live in Nethercutt's district, and the lies he told about Tom Foley were unconscionable. Of course, that is his standard method of operation.

He lies with abandon, but looks like the All-American star.

However, the media in Seattle is far different than the media on the eastern side of the state. The newspaper here was in his pocket and so he has never had to deal with a press that was not fawning and supportive. Trust me. The people in Seattle already dislike him, and an ad such as this will hurt him badly.

(Yes. Murray is very safe)

12. I think blatant Osama baiting has run its course.
They got mileage out of it in 2002, but the hysteria is over. This really is desperation, a hail Mary out of the Saxby Chambliss playbook.

14. What a pig he is!
My stepdaughter's friend said he'd vote for Kerry if she voted for Nethercutt.. because he supports the idea of getting a tax deduction for State sales tax. It's greed.. it's all about greed.

17. How very republican. Just as the Jews were not good Germans
democrats are not good Americans. The more success the republican party has with this tactic the more we will see it in future elections.
