SPOKANE -- A Spokane television station yesterday refused to air a political ad on behalf of Republican U.S. House candidate Cathy McMorris that implied her opponent's deceased father was part of a questionable business deal.
KAYU-TV of Spokane,
a Fox affiliate, decided the National Republican Congressional Committee did not provide enough proof that the ad was true. The money will be shifted to other television stations in Spokane, which are running the ad against Democratic candidate Donald Barbieri, the NRCC said.
"This latest one attacking the integrity of Don's father is a new low for them," said Stephen Barbieri, press secretary to his father's campaign. "Cathy McMorris has a responsibility to demand that it stop."
But McMorris' campaign said she had nothing to do with the ad and
would not speak out against it.more
