In another move to cut costs, Eli Lilly and Co. will close all 43 field sales offices around the country and restructure its U.S. sales force and drug marketing teams.
The changes, which Lilly announced to its workforce today, will eliminate the jobs of 575 U.S. employees, who are being given the choice of taking other jobs within Lilly by the end of the year or accepting a severance package to leave the company.
The restructuring moves "are about making Lilly USA more competitive in an increasingly challenging environment and positioning the affiliate for the future," the company said in an announcement.
Lilly's management in late summer told employees the company would start looking at ways to cut costs and boost productivity in the Indianapolis drugmakers' operations worldwide. A companywide hiring freeze was put in place at the time.
... wonder what 'my man Mitch' - former Lilly Exec whose running for Indiana governator - will have to say about this ??
