'Ranked-Choice Voting' Debuts in Calif.
SAN FRANCISCO - In a change that could give new meaning to direct democracy, San Franciscans will soon cast ballots listing their first, second and third-place choices for municipal offices under a new "ranked-choice voting" system that would eliminate separate run-off elections.

If no candidate secures a majority of first-place votes outright, the results will be retabulated to include the second and third picks until a winner can be declared — a process that could take weeks.

A system whose time has come. Of course, the GOP will fight it tooth & nail.

Um, no, it isn't. With this system in place Gore would have won easily in 2000. Plurality voting is obsolete and completely unfair.

... However it is silly that they say the process could take weeks. Computers can count this instantly once you input the numbers.

4. I cannot agree
A few elections ago, we found ballot boxes in the Bay. This is the best thing that has happen to the rotten and corrupt SF political machine in decades.
