MUSCATINE, Iowa (Reuters) - Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards on Thursday accused top Bush officials of neglecting their duties by making political trips instead of dealing with pressing issues at home.

Edwards, the running mate of Sen. John Kerry, said too many of President Bush's top advisers and Cabinet members were out campaigning in states that could prove to be key in the Nov. 2 election.

Edwards and Kerry's campaign officials have criticized national security adviser Condoleezza Rice for making speeches and campaigning instead of doing her job in Washington, and Edwards expanded on the topic on Thursday.

"There's a problem when our troops are in harm's way, fighting for a secure Iraq and our national security adviser is out on the stump campaigning instead of working," Edwards said in a statement.

1. The Rose Garden vs. The Back Burner
Carter lost primarily because he decided on a "Rose Garden Strategy" in which he worked full time on his job as President rather than leaving to campaign.

Bush has inverted the equation - He and his entire cabinet have put the country, the war, and our safety on the back burner while they spend 100% of their time campaigning.

2. this is so funny after cheney saying he was the absent senator
and record showed he stood in for cheney in the senate twice and was on the floor more than 85% of the time

call them out john for their continued absents from the job - bush over 45% of the time - cheney in undisclosed locations most of the time
