NEW YORK -- October 22 --The first in-depth look at voters supporting Ralph Nader's independent candidacy finds that Senator Kerry is their second choice by a three-to-one margin over President Bush. The survey, released today by The Nation Institute, found that Nader voters have extremely negative views about President Bush and that the risk of taking votes away from Senator Kerry is by far the most important reason they give for not voting for Nader.
The survey was conducted last week by Lake Snell Perry & Associates in eight key battleground states in which Nader is on the ballot. It found that about a third of Nader supporters think Senator Kerry would do a better job than Nader on their highest priority issues - health care, jobs and the economy, and Iraq. The poll also explodes several myths about Nader supporters.
"With everyone predicting an extremely tight presidential race, it's clear that the Nader voter could be a factor in key battleground states," said Hamilton Fish, the President of The Nation Institute. "We wanted to get a better sense of who the Nader supporters are, how they think, and what moves them."

" One-third of Nader voters don't have a second choice for president, but the two-thirds who do pick Kerry over Bush by 49-17 percent, with 11 percent undecided.
http://www.commondreams.org/news2004/1022-06.htmApparently, according to the article above, this years Nader voter bloc is primarily comprised of moderates, and not liberals, and this bloc is comprised of voters who are on average over 30 yrs. of age.
If any Nader/third party voters are reading this, I beg you to reconsider your decision if you have decided to vote third party, or allow this argument to help persuade you not to vote third party if you are considering doing so. It is apparent that the only presidential candidate that can win the impending presidential election, besides Bush, is the Democratic Party nominee. Right now, there is no question in my mind that we need to unite behind John Kerry in order to remove Bush from power, regardless of our perception that we may differ ideologically in some areas.
Senator John Kerry, the Democratic Party presidential nominee, has supported many of the issues and agendas that most of us also support. Bush has supported none of them, and has done what may be irreperable, or at the very least, long term damage to our nation. And while I am aware of, and concerned about, the justifiable philosophical differences between some of us who recognize the problems inherent within a primarily two party political system, it does not appear to me that these differences should overshadow the many positive things that Senator Kerry has done as a legislator, and the absollute critical necessity of removing Bush from our government by voting him out of power in 2004.
Folks, we are talking about our survival here, both as a democratic nation and the physical well-being of our families, friends, and ourselves.
It is, literally, a matter of life and death. Bu$h is dangerous, and very possibly insane, and you all know it.
Please, let's get rid of Bu$h first so that we may retain the democratic liberty to change what needs to be changed at a later time, or we may never again have a reasonable possibility of doing so. We can try to reform the Democratic Party, or begin or join a political movement/party more consistent with our beliefs, after performing our crystal clear democratic duty of removing Bu$h from office.
Our children must be given the opportunity to grow up in a world with some promise of liberty and hope. We cannot take the risk of denying our children this opportunity.
Because four more years of Bu$h will almost certainly leave us, and our children, in a horrible, fear filled, dark, gray world devoid of hope for the future.
