Early ballots flood in across US
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/3947667.stm

There are still 10 days left before US election day, but millions of voters have already cast their ballots.

More than one in five voters plans to vote early - and about 5% have already done so, the National Annenberg Election Survey announced this week.

Election officials hope early voting will help relieve pressure on election day itself, 2 November, when larger than average turnouts are expected.

Some 30 states allow early or absentee votes without any need for explanation.

2. They don't count them
at all? Ever? That's just wrong. Besides absentee ballots have all the candidates, measures, propositions on them and those can often be very close, even if the presidential election isn't.

I can sort of see waiting to do it all at once but to not do it at all is pretty bizarre. I hope CA isn't one of those states. I want my vote for Kerry counted.

4. My daughter went to early vote
today in Raleigh, NC. Went to two pollng places where there was no parking and lines that looked to be at least an hour or more wait. I don't know how other states are handling the early vote, but the lines are intimidating to many; lots of cars turning around and leaving. No one from the Elections Board was in sight to tell people where to park or how long the wait was anticipated to be. What kind of clusterf*** will election day be? My daughter plans to go get in line at 10 a.m. tomorrow as voting starts at 11.

7. Civil Rights Coalition Sues Ashcroft Over Access to Election Fraud Policy
Edited on Sat Oct-23-04 06:12 PM by Zorra
September 28, 2004
Katie Tong

Washington, D.C. – To ensure that Attorney General John Ashcroft’s efforts against voter fraud do not interfere with every citizen’s right to vote, the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights (LCCR), the nation's oldest, largest, and most diverse civil and human rights coalition, today filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Justice under the Freedom of Information Act.

“For the first time in LCCR’s history, we are filing a FOIA suit against the Department of Justice,” said Wade Henderson, Executive Director of LCCR, “because we are concerned the Attorney General may be impeding rather than leading the effort to protect the right to vote.”

“We have heard from our member organizations engaged in voter registration efforts in Florida, South Dakota, Arizona, and New Mexico, among other states, of voter intimidation and efforts to prevent access to the voting booth. Moreover, according to press accounts, Attorney General Ashcroft has apparently issued directives to U.S. Attorneys dealing with ‘voter fraud.’ The Justice Department is obligated to make those directives public. It is imperative for the American people to know now, and not after the election, the potential impact of these policies on every citizen’s right to vote.”

“The Justice Department is obligated to protect every citizen’s right to vote and to ensure that every vote is counted. We do not want any repeat of what happened in Florida and other states in 2000 or in South Dakota in 2002,” said Nancy Zirkin, Deputy Director of LCCR. “We are also perplexed as to why the Attorney General has chosen not to make his policy on ‘voter fraud’ public.”

What is Asscraft up to? Why, Asscraft is just your reglar ol' workin' republican-nazi. He is doing what republican-nazis do. Crushing democracy, freedom, and liberty, taking away all our rights, and working hard to make sure that every American citizen has a government-church controlled surveillance camera in every room in their house within the next 4 years.

8. I'm sending in my absentee ballot registered mail!
I don't trust them for one and I'm doing it as a protest to let them know I don't trust them.

There will be a 'paper trail' for my ballot and I'll have it.

9. How do you find out when they count them? Does anyone know?
This really concerns me because I have never voted absentee and I am going to because I am going to be a poll watcher on election day.
