Russians ‘may have taken Iraq explosives’
But in a further development, John Shaw, a deputy under-secretary of defence, suggested that “Russian units” had transported the explosives out of the country.

In an interview with the Financial Times, Mr Shaw said: “For nearly nine months my office has been aware of an elaborate scheme set up by Saddam Hussein to finance and disguise his weapons purchases through his international suppliers, principally the Russians and French. That network included. . . employing various Russian units on the eve of hostilities to orchestrate the collection of munitions and assure their transport out of Iraq via Syria.”

The Russian embassy in Washington rejected the claims as “nonsense”, saying there were no Russian military in the country at the time.

3. What is this, 198-fucking-2?
Oh, those damned Ruskies!

You know, this is just another great example of BushCo's excellent work in the foreign relations department. Nothing like blaming your gross incompetance on one of your only remaining allies. Especially an ally that wasn't within 100 miles of said incompetance.

I hope Vlad Putin catches a facefull of that. Maybe he'll reconsider his endorsement of our soon-to-be-ex-President.

8. Because...
On the "eve of hostilities" that country was on constant sattelite watch, and to move 760,000 pound of explosives, you'd need a small convoy; you'd think we'd notice if it had happened.

9. uh..."disguise his weapons purchases"? wouldn't they be coming IN?
Not going out? Besides, these were stores of materiel that were already under lock and key and known to the IAEA. Even the Pentagon is distancing itself from this theory, according to the story. Naaah. Try another one.
