Iraqi PM Urges Falluja Grab 'Last Chance' for Peace
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraqi interim Prime Minister Iyad Allawi urged the people of Falluja on Thursday to grab what he said could be their final chance to avert a military assault on the rebel-held city.

"This chance could be the last," a statement from his office said. "(The prime minister) asks the leaders and notables of Falluja to use it to find a political solution to the problem."

Iraq (news - web sites)'s U.S.-backed interim government has vowed to retake all rebel-held areas ahead of elections due to take place by the end of January but threatened by relentless violence.

Talks between the government and negotiators for the rebel stronghold collapsed this month when Allawi threatened to attack Falluja unless it handed over militants led by al Qaeda ally Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.
