Bike-lock alert! Judge gives okay to 'Critical Mass' ride
Bike-lock alert! Judge gives okay to 'Critical Mass' ride

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

A federal judge gave a thumbs up to hundreds of bicyclists engaging in monthly “Critical Mass” rides Thursday, but warned them that their growing numbers were “spawning potential dangers.”

The cyclists had asked U.S. District Court Judge William H. Pauley III to stop police from seizing the bicycles of participants who are not charged with a crime or accused of violating laws.

The city had asked the judge to prevent the bicycle rides unless the cyclists obtain a parade permit.

Pauley denied the city’s request and said police were not permitted to seize bicycles participating in a Friday ride unless they are charged with a crime or violate the law.

1. CM doesn't need a permit
No one needs to okay the ride. If the judge didn't ok this, it would be just like SF a few years back. They can't arrest all of us. The revolution will not be motorized!

4. Critical Mass
is an "organized coincidence" of bicyclists riding home together on the last Friday of every month . It started in SF in the late 80's/early 90's and spread worldwide. If you get a chance, the video "We Are Traffic" is worth watching.

Critical mass is a way of bicyclists banding together to take back our rightful place on the road. We can't be arrested because we aren't blocking traffic, we are traffic.

Critical mass is also my best hope that this country won't slide in a fascist dictatorship. If we, on our bicycles ,can do this, we can stop the repression.
