Bush enlists Schwarzenegger for star turn
MANCHESTER, United States (AFP) - President George W. Bush (news - web sites) was to enlist Hollywood action star turned governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (news - web sites) in a bid to terminate Democrat John Kerry (news - web sites)'s White House hopes four days before the election.

But the Republican's hopes of a star-studded campaign swing through the key up-for-grabs states of New Hampshire and Ohio suffered a reversal when baseball star Curt Schilling bowed out from two stops in this rural state.

Schilling, whose gritty performances despite a painful ankle injury highlighted the Boston Red Sox's World Series (news - web sites) victory, was warned away by his doctors, the White House said.

A day after rocker Bruce Springsteen helped Kerry draw 80,000 people in Wisconsin, the largest rally of his presidential drive, Bush was to counter with the governor of California, arguably the biggest Republican star.
